Default ot: sales tax?

i purchased a few items from the store.acura.com and apparently, they are charging me sales tax for items shipped from MO when i'm in CA. IS this legal? I sent a email asking for an explaination and they respond by saying they have business entities in many states across the US and are required to
collect sales tax in those states. California is a state where they have
presence, therefore need to collect sales tax. does this make sense?

Legal if they actually send you the item FROM California I think.

This is legal. Even if they send you the items from another state, as long as they have a retail presence in the state where you live.
