Painted roll cages
To the people w/painted interiors and painted cages, how do you do it? It's not like you can prepaint the cage or take it out when your done welding to paint it. Whats the best way to get it done?
I will never, ever, spray a cage again. I just used a lot of tape, newspaper, and 4-5 spray cans. I know a few people on this board have brushed their cages and hopefully they will chime in. That's what I would suggest in the future.

Best (that does not mean cheapest, but best) way is to take your car to a professional body shop that you trust. We went to Sentry Body and Paint for both the inside and outside. And honestly, painting the inside of a car with a cage in it is definitely not as easy as it might seem.
See more pics here if interested. http://groups.msn.com/Alexsrac...ist=2

It is lower the normal. The car is a road race car, is300 to be exact. I am a tall guy, 6' 4" and my bride seat is really far back, it was the only way to run that bar.. I guess better low then none

What do you mean by road race car? I have never seen any approved road race cage (or roll bar) as what you have in your car... What sanctioning body do you race under? Is this a pseudo rally race car?

I mean I don't drag race it (i was asked if it was a drag racing cage). I don't race it professionally at any events, just for fun.
And no it's not a pseudo race car, no need to be a smart ***.

i don't think that would pass a tech inspection for a HPDE event either.
i might be wrong but id shot a PM to Grumpy and see what he says. the problem you are going to have is with harness mounting

Yeah it probbably won't pass any hardcore inspenctions, but like I said the car is not raced professionally, just for fun.
As for a harness I use Schroth Racing DOT harness, it mounts to the proper stock locations.

Brush Rustoleum white...

People who have seen it up close will confirm that it's better looking in pictures or from more than 10 feet away but the paint went on in sub-freezing weather, outdoors.
Your results may vary. I hope.

Are you in the US? I'd guess not - which would explain the difference in cage design. Europe seems to have a much more relaxed attitude towards occupant safety in high-speed events.

i painted the bars out of the car, as it was an autopower cage.
at the places it needed to be welded, the paint was removed, welded, then resprayed.
MUCH easier to spray welds than an entire cage, inside a car.

Easy there tough guy. If it's not a "road race car", then don't call it one. With that said, I applaud you for using safety equipment in your car for track events.
I'm not sure what part of the world you're from, but in the US, we mount our shoulder belts to that horizintal bar. Your's is obviously too low for that type of installation. Hence, the reason for our questions.

i brushed mine with a sponge and some el-cheapo anti-rust paint (i think it was called XO-Rust) er somethin. it took a hella long time, but it was less of a pain in the *** than to spray it.
spraying it outside of the car, then respraying the welds is the ideal way to do it. but unless you're building your own cage, it'd be pretty difficult to coordinate that with the builder.
as far as this whole race/non-race car thin goes. unless you can show us a results sheet or website, it's not a race car. it's a street car with a roll cage in it that might set a wheel on the track every so often. my race car gets airborne just about everytime i go to Mid-America Motorplex, but it's not an airplane.

Actually, FIA cages do not necessarily require the harness bar be placed in the main hoop, or any transverse bar in the main hoop for that matter. Here is the cage from my wrecked car:

Here is an example of an approved FIA design:
Here is an example of an approved FIA design:
I painted the cage with Rust-O-Leum primer (white). See picture:

After that I covered up with lots of newspaper and used black Rust-O-Leum spray paint on the cage. It is a slow process but the results are good if you take your time.
In my case the car is a Miata so much of the cage is exposed (no top) for easy acces. It may be a little more difficult in an Integra.
