Default Help! 93 accord brake lights wont turn off!!

Out of no where my 93 honda accord brake lights started to stay on even after i turned off the ignition. Nothing will seem to get them to turn off. The brake peddel seems to be in its normal position. I tried disconnecting the battery and that didnt work. Any help would be great, thanks

sounds like the brake light switch on the pedal. If you look under the dash where the pedals are you will see the switch on the brake pedal. Pull off the connector and if they go off that will be your problem. Accord brake lights work when the pedal is pressed no matter what position the ignition is in. It may just need adjusting but it's likely to have gone bad.

The switch is the problem turns out. I disconnected the switch and the brake lights went out. But the button still seems to turn off the lights whenever i press the button in with my finger. Does that mean it just needs adjusting or is it shot?

check where it contacts the pedal to see if it is hitting it right,it may be the plastic button is worn or missing on the contact

I found a few peices of rubber on my floor today. I found out that there use to be a rubber insert that goes inside the hole on the pedal. That insert had broken apart and the button was not making contact with anything. Problem is im not sure what to ask for when i go to the parts store

something like that you'll probably have to get from a dealership... or a pick-a-part junkyard.

The switch comes complete... it will need replacing as a whole. It would be cheaper to go to a junkyard but you could order it online here...

https://www.1sthondaparts.com/

You can select OEM parts then select your car. Look for Electrical then Chassis Electrical you will find the stop lamp swicth in there. If your car doesn't have cruise control it will cost $12 with cruise you're looking at $38! I would say junk yard
