someone threaten to steal your shift ****? and hood ornament?
two things jump out right away. you need to get both hands on the wheel all the time. practice it on your street driving so you don't revert back to a bad habit under stress. second, j00 need to look ahead more mang! i don't think i ever saw your head turn. (it did, but i'm exaggerating to make a point. that "skidpad" section of the course should have had your head turned 90*'s out the passenger window.) otherwise,

I feel more comfortable using one hand to steer while autoxing especially since I pulled a muscle in my right shoulder working on my truck a few weeks ago. but for the most part IMO its easier for my brain to tell one hand what to do rather that have them both fight it it out. I've been posting times that are as fast if not faster then cars that are much more prepared for autox.
thanx

That's all relative. There have been some autocrosses where "by the numbers" I must have been the best autocrosser in the word and others where I must have been one of the worst.
Regardless of if you're the top dog in your club you could be faster yet.
When I first started autocrossing I was always getting my arms crossed up. Then I practiced using the shuffle technique and I have never had the problem again.

Aaron! Great vid man! I didn't even look to see who the poster was and opened the video. I immediately recognized Penn National and thought holy sh*t that's local! Sorry I havent been to the last couple events. We've since moved to Lebanon and are expecting a baby soon.

hey SIbeau, hershey on 10-24 at least watch.
to the rest of you guys telling me to use 2 hands, You're all right I do need to learn how to drive. I have no talent and can't even use 2 hands on the wheel, I suck. I wish I was half as good a driver as any one of you. can someone please help me
I'm just teasin' but I'll admit driving with 2 hands is good advise however if you think about it if you have both hands on the wheel then your brain has to tell each hand what you want to do and each hand will react slightly different thus fighting each other. Also each hand can feel input from the wheel transferring info to the brain but the info from each hand may be different and cause misinformation.
Bottom line IMO precision driving can best be accomplished with one hand(depending on circumstances) although 2 hands are nessasary at times.
I am not claiming to be an expert but I do have many years of experiance in accident avoidence and my style of driving has never let me down.

I'm pretty new to autox but DAIM SON!!! you must be watching too much pr0n cuz your hand is on that shaft like no other....j/p You did really well for someone driving one handed. I'm sure you could kick my but at autox anytime.
you may be a great driver now cause you're comfortable with one hand, but learning how to use two hands (which might make you sucks a little bit while learning) will yeild you better times in the long run.

Damn all these years everyone's had it wrong?? Last time I looked every professional racecar driver from F1 to rally has two hands on the wheel at all time except when shifting (in most F1 and Rally cars cases they still have both hands on the wheel).

Accident avoidance? Elaborate...
Anyways, I noticed the way you twirl the wheel with one hand. This leads to jerky steering inputs where you yank the wheel in one direction and then the other. Also, if something unexpected happens, you have an increased chance of breaking or spraining a thumb and/or finger.
I've seen people who drive with the "gangsta lean" resist the advice of proper positioning of the body with regards to driving position. Then when they got tired out from undue muscle exertion of the shoulders and arms, they tried a more suitable posture and suffered less exhaustion. Have you tried hot lapping on a race track with the one-handed steering style?
The "conflict" theory you mentioned...by that rationale, wouldn't it also affect things like playing video games and typing and playing sports?
I know you're stating all of this from a comfort position, but be open minded and try different things. If they don't work for you, you can always stick to what works best for you.
I'm not saying you're wrong and I'm right...just give things a try. Good luck and have fun!

accident avoidance would be driving on the street in heavy traffic or at idiotic speed which I was definately guilty of at a younger age.
Your post was well said and I will try to use 2 hands more often. It's just something I've never thought about till ya'll brought it up, I would just use one hand and if it felt nessesary I would add the other.
BTW I will be adding a link to a slightly longer and higher quality vid of that same performance shortly
thank you all
