stereo slides in and out
the factor stereo in my gsr isn't solidly mounted. it slides in and out (with the tray opening). is there suppose to be some kind of mount or bracket that holds it in place? because even if i get an aftermarket stereo, it would still be the same.

The radio is actually held in place by only two Philips/8mm bolts. the two bolts are found at the rear of the unit (there are no bolts on the sides). Take a look at them from underneath.

ya its just two small bolts..the only thing is you probably need to take your console apart..i tired to screw in my cd player w/o taking it apart and it was pretty hard

i doesnt bolt to anything. it comes with a frame that has a couple of "push anchors" that allows u to slide the deck in, but wont let you slide it out.
its kinda hard to explain
its kinda hard to explain
a radio install "kit" will be mounted in place of your radio and the "pocket" (the "oem" pocket is actually mounted directly to your "oem" deck)
the aftermarket deck will come with a cage that will slide into the kit's opening and metal tabs hold it in place.... you simply bend them against the plastic... sounds cheasy... but it works.
your deck then slides into this cage and locks into place. most decks come with "keys" to release the locking tabs for easy removal.
some will opt to tie the deck into the bracket back there where your oem deck was bolted... you can... if you want... not necessary but it will keep an amateur theif from getting your deck.... but it will probably **** him off really bad and he'll end up tearing up your interior pretty bad....
presto
deck mounted... securely.

Luckily you don't have to remove the screws all the way to get the deck out. The screws thread into the bracket on the head unit itself, and then there are just notches back in the dash that slides in between the screw head and bracket on there stereo, and then you tighten the screws.

I let a professional installed my double din deck. not Circuit city or best buy, but an acutual professional.
they created a custom mount that secured the deck in place.
when i went to get my amp installed, the guys at al's and eds sounds or whatever told me they couldnt do it cuz they couldnt get the deck out.
so i had to go back to where i got my deck installed.
thats how good the install was.
unless the guys at al's and eds were too lazy to find where the bolt was, that was holding the deck in place.
