Change from Honda oil to other ?
Hey... I rebuilt about 1 year ago with stock honda bearings... been running 10w30 genuine honda oil since then as always.
Now it's a bit harder to get Honda oil where I live now... people have been recommending other brands like castrol, mobil1 etc... I don't want to go synthetic really.
Someone also told me that Quaker State is the same formula as Honda oil... is that true ?

Honda does not make oil. They use Mobil for their 5w20, and I think either Mobil or Quaker State for the others. For the most part, quality oil is quality oil. Most dealers don't get their oil from Honda, anyway.
Umm... every Honda dealer I've been too supply's Honda 'genuine' oil. Honda may not make it, but the formula used is selected by them and I don't know for sure who makes it.
I know they do not use a 5w20 tho... where'd you get that ?
Anyone w/ other opinions ?

Well, the local honda shop says Quaker state has the same molecular composition as Honda stuff... but I can't confirm that.
I want to stay w/ conventional oil... but the Honda stuff that I've been using religiously can only be bought on the other side of the country !

i say go with chevron motor oils. they use a group II+ basestock and is one of the best conventional oils out there. it has always performed well in used oil analysis on bobistheoilguy.com. its also really cheap b/c they do not advertise their motor oils. i use chevron supreme or delo motor oils in all of my family's vehicles except my civic which gets castrol syntec 0w-30.
Why dont you use synthetic? It will give you better protection over conventional oil, anyday....Everyday. I use conventional only for the 1st 5000 miles of an engines life. After that, its onto Mobile-1 10w30 in the summer, and 5w30 in the winter. Its more expensive, duh, but worth every extra $10. IMO!
I have heard many negatives about synthetic and seals... so I am sticking w/ conventional for now.
I did switch to mobil1 on my stock block LS when I was turbo... the oil was great... but when I did a rebuild... the rear main seal was in bad condition... and the engine was only 60k old...
