Default Short fuel hose

When I first bought my car, I knew almost nothing about cars. I took it to my first mechanics (********) and they told me that I have a short fuel hose, and that all my fuel will never be used. I actually believe this because I have run out of gas way before my arrow went near the bottom marker and have never seen my gas light on. When I had run out of gas, I had pushed my car to a gas station, and was only able to put in 14 gallons. I heard that the capicity is 17 gallons. So how can I alleviate this situation? How can I lengthen my fuel hose? Is this a major job or can I do it myself?

yeah, the manual says that our fuel tank holds 17.04 gallons. However, even after driving many miles with the "low fuel" indicator light on, the most I've ever been able to put into my car is 13 gallons. And that's without topping it off!

you might want to buy a manual and see how to test your fuel sending unit. Often times it goes bad (I hear it's notorious in 5th gens)...it's a device inside your fuel tank that measures how much fuel there is, and sends a voltage level to the fuel gauge. I'm guessing either it's reporting a higher fuel level than the actual level, so that the needle doesn't hit E and the "low fuel" light never gets triggered. Or maybe the bulb burned out...etc, etc...

I've never heard of a short fuel hose problem before.

I heard it might be that before as well. It takes 32 highway miles for a 'full-tank' indicator to even start to move down on my car, so I'm guessing that might be it. Ill check it out. Thanx.
