Default $2500. need to get to a reliable low 13 sec 1/4. no nitrous. recipes?

was offered a talon tsi awd for 4500 that can do a reliable high 12. figure, if i can sell the crx for 2k i'd be spending 2500. if i can spend the same on the rex, i'd prefer it. prefer to keep the interior. any thoughts?

I'm not clueless, I'm just what you call an internet racer. I've been on boards for awhile, afraid to touch my car until I'm confident in my capability. Translation: no experience. I know what sounds good, dont know what really works out well.

Thanks,

You could probably do a junkyard turbo setup to a D series. With slicks that could be low 13's pretty easily.

lol! I seriously would just go with a D16a6/z6/y8 and turbo it for that kind of cash. With slicks and some nice tuning, it'll run into the 13's for sure. Look at Juddi Lin's CRX..she was pushing a stock d16y8 with a Turbo kit and ran into the 12's? Just depends on what you want out of it and the time of tuning you want to put into it.

till it blew up. Her and Alexi did a good job with the car and ran good times for the money invested.

but, isn't there a line that goes something like:
fast, reliable, cheap... pick two.

stock b16 bottom + stock b16 head + SC61 turbo kit = 11.5-12.0s in a rex with slicks

Yeah, but can you do it with only $2500?

Do the turbo D, you'll save money from not doing a swap which could be used to beef up the engine for more boost.

d series ~~~~> mini-me ~~~~> junkyard turbo = definite 13's. For way less than 2500...with the remainding money you can buy a horde of bolt-ons and pay for tuning if need be. Plus slicks. Now you should be In the low 13's. For a significant amount under budget.

If you want to go low 13's on a Honda and keep it under $2500 you have to go turbo.
I run a consistent 13.4 mostly because of me, not the car. You have to keep that in mind. The driver makes a world of difference, it's what's keeping my car from going high 12's.
Good luck and I hope you actually go ahead and do it.
I think there are waaaay too many internet racers on this forum already.

Umm no....Here let me break it down for you (what i spent on my car)
89 B16A with trans, linkage, and mounts. $1200
skunk2 stage1's $450
skunk2 chip $40
DC Headers Free
Aem fuel Rail $100
Aem Cam Gears Free
Aem CAI $120
Custom Exhaust $200
JG 66mm Throttle Body $120
skunk2 Intake manifold $200
Total = $2430

My times are in my sig...
I do agree that a Turbo D would be a little cheaper, but, if you want to go all motor, it can be done...
