Not insult cops, and explain what happened to the judge.

Perhaps the cop was a bit slow (some are, you know )-he did not realize that you were hearing impaired. Probably thought that you were trying to be a smartass. Plead not guilty and see if the cop shows up. If he does, then you can plead your case. If he doesn't, case dismissed.

I wouldnt stress too much. By the way it sounds, the cop was just being a ***** like 99% of them are. He probably was ignorant to the fact you were hearing impaired even after you asked him to write down what he said. Just plead not guilty in court, explain yourself as calmly as you can to the judge and it should be all good. Chances are he may not show, in which case you are off the hook anyways. If he does however, I wouldnt spare telling the judge how you felt about his mistreatment of you either. Good luck

both of my parents are deaf, and i've had a similar situation occur when riding with my dad. we just went to court together, and i interpreted for him and explained the situation and had it dismissed.

funny thing is, the cop was forced to apologize to my dad afterwards because he accused him of not being deaf, calling him an "*******". oh well, i guess some cops are just douchebags. sorry to hear about your trouble, man.

hello, this is jdmitr01's gf... Ok, this is what happened: We were headed home driving down IH 10 taking the turnaround exit, we then proceeded to get on the access rd. to (shortly) merge onto the highway. The cop told my bf that he was driving 65mph on a 45mph zone??? The access road was only used as a ramp to merge onto the highway. There was lots of traffic on that ramp from other people trying to get on the freeway as well, so he couldn't of been going this fast because there was no space or time allowed... we did speed up but only once we were already on the highway (which is what one is supposed to do on the highway: speed up not slow down), and that's where we were pulled over at, on the highway not on the access road, which leads me to believe that this was a speeding trap! I checked to see what was the speed limit on this particular highway, and surprisingly it was 65mph! So technically we were not speeding? The ticket itself is written as if we were driving/ speeding down the access road for a while and that is incorrect as well. Yes, my bf is hearing impaired. The cop was a little rude to my bf because he didn't have the patience to repeat himself, but I couldn't say anything as I was only the passenger. I will help him stand before a jury and hopefully it will get dismissed, wish us luck!!!

I guess the ticket could stick if they clocked the 65 on the access road, or any lane that merges to the highway... I remember that was the ONLY question I got wrong on a driving exam once... that you can't go the highway speeds until you are FULLY on the highway. ie: must merge at 45 and then accelerate up to speed.

One suggestion:
Some kind of card that you can hand to a cop when you are pulled over explaining your situation. Should help to prevent misunderstandings in the future. Just have it handy. You don't want to be reaching into your glove box when the cop is coming up to your car; that is a good way to get shot.

Some people don't have the patience to read the entire thread. They see an easy chance to get their post count up by insulting someone. Two thumbs up to the morons who neglect to read.

You're obviously as ignorant and impatient as the cop. What's your excuse?

It sounds like you think you accelerated to 65mph on the access street, while your gf is saying you didn't accelerate to 65mph until you were actually on the highway. If you plan to fight the ticket, you'd better get your stories straight.
