Default Ecu for SK2 Stage 2 Cams?

I'm currently building an ls/vtec setup. I'm using a full skunk2 valvetrain w/valves and stage II cams. The bottom end will be je/srp pistons with eagle rods. I'm having to rebuild "unexpectedly" , so money is becoming an issue.

The car hopefully be on the road in two weeks, so I need to make an ecu choice by then. I currently have an XS engineering ecu in my car that ran rich on stock cams. What would be the effects of the skunk2's, richer/leaner? Also, can I get away with just running a chipped ecu with the skunk2 program till I can afford hondata, or am I going to have to have hondata to run the setup safely? I will be breaking in the motor with which ever setup I choose, so I was wondering if the chipped sk2 ecu would cause any issues, and therefore make hondata necessary, or can I run it without worry, just w/o the extra hp from a tuned hondata? Thanks for the help!

well, personally, i wouldnt drive that car without some sort of fuel management because your motor sounds pretty damn sick. skunk2 stage 2 needa late vtec engagement point, so youll need AT LEAST a vafc to mess with the settings. i would seriously reccomend not driving it without some sort of tuning. its harder on your motor and you could end up doing another rebuild. its better safe than sorry.

stage 2's will make you car run LEANER if your ecu was running rich with stock cams. since the lobes are bigger, it opens the valves farther and longer; hence, youll need more air and more fuel going into the motor. without a vafc or hondata, there is no way to see how much fuel or air is going into the motor.

you might be safe running a skunk2 ecu, since they usually do run rich, but i HONESTLY would not do it. theres no way of knowing if you are causing damage to your motor. i know you are impatient to get your car on the road, but WAIT A LITTLE LONGER and save up for hondata or a vafc and some tuning.

I'm currently talking to a couple people about a hondata system. I"m going to try to find one in classifieds, although most of them are setup for boost, which I don't need. Otherwise I'll buy something new if I have to. Thanks- Kenny C

just got an S100 p28 from Arinx here on H-T. Seems like a cool guy, I'll let you know when it arrives safely. I was just too worried about breaking in and daily driving a motor with stage II cams among other things. I'd also hate to see 4k go down the drain b/c I was too cheap to fork over an extra 500 for an ecu and tuning.
