Default Cams, Cam gears, and other internals

I'm a bit confused on what goes on with the tuning of cams and cam gears...
So basically, you get a good set of cams, and you're gonna want cam gears so you can tune them right? And then you have to get on a dyno so that you can properly tune both the intake and exhaust cams individually to get the best possible power curve. So what's the deal with the VAFC in this setup... Isn't the tuning done on the dyno? The VAFC just does fuel tuning right? Isn't that more useful for other internal mods like a TB or an intake manifold? And how does an ECU play into this?

usually u can keep the stock ECU while u play with cams and cam gears.
when u tune the two, u need the additional fuel along with getting more air in.
more air/fuel equals more power.
the VAFC is used to #1 change ur vtec xover. usually higher than stock. its useful
if u have bigger cams to take advantage of their bigger lobes(profile)
also with VAFC u can add and/or subtract fuel in certain rpm ranges. that where tuning on the dyno comes in and especially if u have an air/fuel ratio meter. u will be able to take away or add fuel to those areas to get the most power.
as for intake mani, some manifolds do not have that great of flow that goes thru them and TB's are the same way. Too restrictive. once u open those up with either bolt on mani's like the skunk2 and bigger TB u can create more air flow in hopes of getting more power. going to big can be more negative than positive tho

hope this helps some for I am still learning myself.

So the additional fuel you're talking about... that comes from where? Do you need a FPR and better injectors or what?

FPR is good to a point, but if you go too high, it can stress the fuel pump. Injectors/fuel pump either or both is good for high power applications. You don't want too much fuel for any given application.
