My guess would be:
blueprint motor, cams, valves, springs.
Im happy with my 7000rpm's so I ask why 9000rpms?

you mean run 9000 rpm safe?

fully built head....valve springs, retaners, etc.

by then most cams have already lost power, so whats the point?

the point is the super stunnfactor!!!

just go itr internal i guess and you should make power to 8500 and if you want to go that high you can just get a chip that will let you rev super high and just do it. no for sures on that it will be safe or make power that high but it will be 9000 rpm

no, if you get an ECU set for 9k rpm's and no built motor, your going to have a sexy lookin paperweight on your hands.

you have to probably have everything internally (bottom end) forged, then get some cam's and valves and stuff that can allow you to rev that high. no point in even going past 8.5k rpm's cuz you'll never make any power up top like that.

you'll just be attracting cops and attention and wasting gas

Eh 8K is nothing, I'm about to hit 180K and I redline my engine or come close to it almost every day, still getting 32-34 mpg, no oil burning, no leaks or anything.

... built an lsvtec over the winter... stock cams, new rod bearings, gsr head, skunk2 valve springs/retainers... piston rings never seated in right (so i didnt bother getting cams)...

ive recently been trying to destroy the bottom...im pissed at it, and i have a donor block for sleeving right now... rev to 9200 all day, so far so good... damn. maybe ill do a vid, with that rod/stroke of an ls, it sounds pretty shaaweeet.

edit: i just want the god damn thing to explode... but not into the head... thats all i care about lol

What everybody allready said... bottom end (internals), valves, springs, cams...... yada yada yada................then you'll need an ecu that will let you get past your rev limiter... hondata, chip it... blah blah blah.................. get the point?
But unless your engine can make power that high then its POINTLESS to rev that high the GSR makes 170hp at the crank at 8000rpm it redlines at 8100rpm and its rev limiter is at 8200rpm.
If you want a car that you can take to the drag strip then ideally you would want your car to make peak power at a reasonable 6500-7000k rpm range give or take. If your going auto-x then a higher rpm limit would be ideal lets say 7000+. For example lets take a look at the extreams of the sport, formula 1 cars redline in 14000-16000rpm range, **** the spoon civic type R redlines at 14000 if im not mistaken, those cars aren't at "home" on a drag strip sure they have good straight line acceleration but thats not where they 'shine'. Now take a look at the other extream of the sport, muscel cars were made for the drag strip, now they don't have the problem with torqe that Integra owners do but they redline at 5500 to 6500 rpm.
I speak from ALOT of observation and a little experience. but im no expert.
Did any of that make sense?

Not too hard to get up there, but after 9300...things change even more. Regardless, stock, you don't want to. You need to have a powerband that high to even take advantage of it. My car can hold up to 9500, but it doesn't make power that high...so there's no need to take it there.

there are plenty of n/a muscle cars that rev to 8k, and quite a few that go past that (most are not in stock form, however). really, your wallet is the limit to how high you want to rev your engine (and make power).

but really, there isn't a point to revving high unless you make power there.

the gsr valvetrain is supposed to be good up to 9000 rpm, but new springs wouldn't hurt. i would get forged rods too. and might as well get pistons while you're in there. damn, i hate cars...

I'm pretty sure a stock B18C's power peaks at more like 7000-7500 RPM, and then drops off before the fuel cut. That's why it's pointless to rev higher unless you have ALOT of mods, because power drops at and after redline.

I'm pretty sure the B16B has hotter cams than the B18C(5),
