Default Crower 404 Cams *HELP*

Got a quick question. Just dropped in a 93 LS Motor in my 92 Civic EX 4 door, and my friend had a set of crower 404 cams in the motor. Is it safe to run those on a stock head, or shouyld I remove them and put the stock camshafts back in? Am I risking bending valves, or valve float or anything?

*UPDATE* car now starts and idles pretty good. Just need to adjust the timing, tighten up a few things, and double check all fluids and take her out for a little cruise. Throttle responce is a little on the slugish side though . . . . what could cause that?

Not sure but i think you need to run aftermarket valves/springs/retainers with these cams.Good cams by the way....

404s have pretty aggressive lift for stock springs. Upgrade or you'll probably be sorry in the long run.

I guess I got more work to do. My friend is pooped and doesn't want to change the cams today which sucks. The car sounds wicked as hell with those cams though I gottah admit that. So it's not safe to run on a stock head then, correct?

you still have the potential to float a valve due to the increased lift. im sure it will be fine though as long as you dont beat on it untill you upgrade. oh you also really need to get those cams tuned....

Well they are Crower cams and this what they say:

"62404-2
Stage 3 - 3/4 Race, recommended for mostly strip. Requires 84162 [spring/retainer] kit and ECU mod. 1100 to 8200+ rpm, lope at idle. Springs required. (18-21 hp). "

So either chance it and do it twice or spend the extra $350 and do it right the first time.

the 404's make power at high end, keep your car under redline to be safe, it should be ok for now if you dont wanna bother swapping it out

Yeah, you need upgraded valvesprings and Crower recommends higher compression and mild head porting for these cams!
