D-Stock National Championship In-Car Video
I finally got around to capturing my in-car video from the Solo II National Championships. I figured I'd post my winning runs for mass criticism.

If your car makes it on Speed channel (Sports Car revolution), you can thank me because I recommended them to get several shots of your car when you were running (North course).
They were filming the GRM car, but I suggested thay they get your car on there too, since you'd probably end up winning. Glad I didn't jinx you.

Thanks, Brian. I can't get the South course link to work but North course was fine. Good camera angle! Now I know how I should have driven it.
The thing that I noticed is that your car seems to accelerate very well (compared to mine). Also body roll in transition seems less. Doing anything special engine wise? (I am thinking oil type and amount, air cleaner exhaust, etc.). Also what shocks are you using, what front bar etc.
I have been trying the 205 Kuhmos since returning from Topeka and I like them a lot.
They seem to last longer: after 36 runs they still have a lot of runs left in them.
They seem to have a wider grip plateau than the Hoosier making them easier to drive: I tested back to back with SO4s and the times were within 0.05 (which is way smaller than the margin of driver error).
They seem to be as heat sensitive as the SO4 and may not be good for 2 driver cars in the middle of summer.
If they come out with a 225/45/15 then they will be THE tire to have (until Hoosier comes out with an SO5 :-)
regards and congrats on a great job,
Alan (28DS)

All, I'm working on a more reliable host. I'm over quota on wdtr, so that may be the problem.
Alan, I'm running SPSS-valved Koni DA's, and I run them pretty stiff. I'm also running a JDM ITR front swaybar.
Engine-wise, the only thing special I did was run high-octane unleaded. On a dyno earlier in the season, we tried some octane booster, and it resulted in a 3-4 lb-ft increase across nearly the entire rev range. Ignition timing is just under +18 (top of spec.) Since the octane booster isn't legal, I put in good gas just for Nationals. It's too much of a PITA for the rest of the season. BTW, with the octane booster, it peaked at 121 lb-ft and 170 hp.
Otherwise, I'm running a Comptech filter, Magnaflow exhaust, and Mobil 1.
I've heard that the V710 will be a 50-series instead of a 45. That's unfortunate.
Ryan, no, I can't show Kathy's runs. She's faster than me in some places. Well, I could show her wet runs.

100 octane, street legal, taxed, unleaded (~50/50 with 92 octane -- Since I didn't test, I didn't want to go too high.)
BTW, the video links have been updated.

Brian,
I only got about 35 seconds of the south course run. The north course run is not there, it is a copy of the same south course run.

How are you liking the Magnaflow exhaust? In an earlier post you said you wanted a louder-than-stock exhaust; is the Magnflow too loud for a daily-driver?

Hi Brian,
First, congradulations on a most excellent drive. Your performance puts into question everything I have done up here in Canada with mt ITR.
I haven't been able to view those videos but when I do , I am sure it will shed some light.
Your dyno numbers are interesting because I always suspected my 150,000km 'R was getting old and with it's last dyno run at 152whp...it is now confirmed.
I realize that gas plays into the picture as I always run 94 oct here in Canada but was unable to find pump gas beyond 92 in Kansas.
I will definately be looking into a front sway bar for next year as Mark D. and yourself have proven there worth despite what I now about Hondas.
I was also going to change my exhaust this year and considered the Magnaflow. I idn't see a specific ITR application in the catalogue, what did you use exactly? Did you save much weight too?
What do you you think about those V710 for next year?....225/50 or 205/50 up front....will they be stronger than the Hoosiers?
Anyhow, I will be trying to attend more North East Tour dates next year, trying to get up to speed for Topeka 2005.
See ya soon.

WOW so that's what a DS National winner driving looks like. Some of those sections I didn't think you were going to make it. Great video and thanks for posting. No wonder I was so slow
Thanks for re-uploading the video. Keep up the good fight against the 330s.
I'll have to rethink the big front bar idea for my car. The Type R seems so neutral I wouldn't think you'd need it ... Does anyone remember off hand if DFauth used one?

Answering some questions:
The Magnaflow exhaust has been everything I expected. It's loud enough that I can hear it but quiet enough for daily driving. It was around 5 (maybe 8) lbs. lighter than the stock exhaust. Fit is good after I got the right part. There a two fitments for the DC2, and Magnaflow had their part numbers messed up. They sent me the right part, but I'm still not sure which part number I should have ordered. For $340 to my door, it was a good buy.
The V710's will be interesting next year. It's unfortunate that the 225 is a 50-series instead of a 45. Also, Hoosier is making some changes to the S04's, so we'll have to wait and see.
Nope, no aftermarket LSD. I've never had wheelspin problems with the stock LSD.
No, Fauth didn't run a bigger front bar. He thought I was nuts to try it.
Thanks for all the driving compliments.

Watching the in-car videos from the guy that smoked me at Nationals = masochism, so I'll save you the bandwidth.
I knew it cerebrally, and also knew going in that even if it were possible I wasn't the guy to do it, but jumping from car to car all season is not the way to reach the top at nationals. I stand by my excuse.
I never had a chance to come say so in person, so congratulations.
