Goddammit my car is burning oil!
What the hell, I just got this thing rebuilt and its drinking oil down like crazy. you can actually see it smoking at idle...
Besides rings can it be anything else?? FUCKKKKKKKKKKK

who rebuit it??
if its smokes at idle and it doesnt smoke at WOT, then its most likely
valve seals.
I dont see how the guides themselves could cause you to burn oil

it smokes at idle and at wot..
guess what i found last night... checked my plugs cause my car was running like ****, and found one broken electrode... where it went who knows. my pcv valve was disconnected , i hooked it back up and now it looks like my problem is worse. it made the idle jump up, and now when I get on it, there is a friggin cloud of smoke, it is fucken embarrassing. I plan to do a leak down test tomorrow.
Would worn valve stem seals cause all this to happen. the head I have came off a motor was turboed, don't those prematurely wear out the valve stem seals??
I'm bout ready to leave this car on the curb and let the garbageman take it away. Can you tell I'm just a bit frustrated?
a honda mechanic here locally did it for me on the side, he's pretty reliable.

Electrodes are very small, could they **** some thing up major????
They can score your cylinder walls and cause loss of compression...

I've got a similar question. After long stints on the highway (30+minutes, 75+ mph) I notice a smell of burnt oil when sitting (after exiting). It permeates the cabin and really stinks. I also noticed some smoke from under hood, but nothing serious. There don't appear to be any leaks where I park (both at home and work), but I do have oil consumption of about 1 qt per oil change. Am I just burning oil because of the revs or is it possibly something more serious?
Any ideas what to check?
btw- the motor compression checked 220, 210, 210, 210 (dry) and 230 across the board (wet)

Had this on my car awhile back, it was a small oil leak. After a month of wondering WTF? I finally found that the valve cover gasket was messed up on the timing belt end and oil was going down the block and all over the place.
valve stem retainers
Do you know if this Honda mechanic ever installed rings before, and if he knows that there is a proper UP and DOWN position for the rings?
Next time, buy a Helms and do the rebuild yourself. That way you won't be guessing.
Also, if you *just* rebuilt it.. why weren't the valve seals replaced? They are less than a buck each.
my car burns alot of oil too, except when i pull the pvc line, there is no smoke. Idle there is no smoke, and at WOT is fine as well. I checked the plugs and they are fine as well, just running a little rich. Any ideas of what the **** is up, ii mean im burning almost 2 quarts every 500 miles. I did the proper break in with regular oil. I switched to synthetic after the break in (10W 30 mobil 1)
Well obviously first check for oil leaks. You're not seeing any smoke under acceleration? What exactly did you have done to your motor? Just rebuilt the block?

Well, looking over your sig it can obviously only be 2 things.. Most likely I'm going to bet it's your piston rings. Did you get the block honed before installing the pistons? If you did get it rehoned, it's probably burning oil because of improper installation. Run a compression test and see what the results are. You'll be able to tell what the problem is from that. The other possibility is the valve seals are leaking... It's possible, but 9 out of 10 times the problem is w/ the piston rings. Good Luck and let us know..

compression test results are 220 in all cylinders. I did a wet test (cap full of oil and it went to 250 in all cylinders. These pistons and rings are less than 2 weeks old, so it seems that maybe they havent finished seating? Or could there be a problem with using a compression test with JUN III cams? Or could it be a valve seal problem?
Why the hell did I write valve stem retainers?
I deserve that. I meant to say valve stem seals. duh on me. sorry haven't been gettting much sleep these past few days.
The rebuild only consisted of the bottom end only.
