Default Topspeed ported head dyno!!

Sorry it's not the clearest scan in the world, but you can see the results.

Red line is B18C5 w/ AEM intake, AEM cam gears, DC JDM 4-1, Mugen Twin Loop and Apexi V-AFC. Cam gears were +3, -1.. VTEC@5100

Blue line is same motor. Topspeed ported head, Topspeed ported ITR intake manifold, head was only milled 5 thou to clean up. Compression is about 10.8:1 if I did my math right. New settings were +4, +2 on the cams, VTEC@4600, richened up on top after 6000rpm...

Thanks!

If anyone wants more info on Topspeed, email me or j.n.holcombe@worldnet.att.net Josh, owner of Topspeed.

My roomate has the GSR head and skunk2 manifold ported by them on his GSR but he can't seem to drive enough every day to get it broken in. I'll have results in a few months.

Mike K - how much for port-n-polish? That's a very good number for stock cam.

Ths is a great example to show that Peak horsepower does not show everything. If you just look at that, you would not be impressed. 180.4 vs 179.2. Many people would not be impressed with a 1.2 HP gain, but they miss the big picture which is a huge gain all over the place.

Nice Dyno!!!

I would be very happy looking at just the peak numbers...

Just look at those peak torque numbers!

Sorry, they don't have a website yet. Been too busy.

I guess you could consider this the whole job..
port, polish, deshroud valves, polish combustion chamber, 3 angle valve job, mill

he also spot-faces heads if you're going with a big bore block.

believe me, the midrange is nice. after VTEC kicks, it's just a nice gradual pull to redline.

Mike M? What is his compression like? I'd love to see that graph with before and after...

His compression is 11.9:1
Sorry, I don't have a DIRECT comparison graph.. we installed the head at the same time we did the cams. His previous runs were a stock ITR head and Toda Spec A cams. The comparison would be unfair... looks like 2 different motors.

Mike K - forgot to ask one question. was this on a OBDII ECU-ed B18C5? If not, would he have seen more/less HP with OBDI ECU setup?

not anymore mike, sorry but after talking with sgt and figuring out the work being done in january with hondata and some other stuff i went with 440's for 250 shipped...he said thats what he had and that it easy to cut fuel with hondata and alll...he also said he is still lean in some spots with the 440's and hondata and the fuel pressure regulator...i will give you a call though on some spark plugs and some type r seat covers...how much are the covers for the type r seats...

Hmmm,

I see the port and polish caused a pretty good gain but there`s a point that looks strange to me... Vtec kicks in at 4600 as you wrote. When I watch the power curve I see it dipping down extremely from 4600rpm on. That must be very noticable while driving istn`t it ?
When I got my dbilas-cams installed, the first thing I saw was the power lack right after x-over on the graph.. While accelerating it feels like a giant-hand pulls the whole car back for just a second. The redline-shift lets dip the runs exactly into the power lack. So I get rid of them in a few weeks.

I`m still learning, but IMHO that lack of 900pm (4600-5500) is not typical for an R.

nice work. the midrange is a killer gain from both the headwork and a change from +3 in /-1 ex to +4 in/+2 ex cam gear settings. Do you think he can get even more in the 4500-5500 rpm range from further fuel map tuning in that area or using a different chip?

Topspeed

cheers

Sgt's motor isn't typical of most hondas. 440's and a lot of fuel press isn't the norm for what he runs. There are things called dirty motors which just need to run a hell of a lot rich to run good. If you don't know a 310 injector is good for 10lbs of boost. 440 on a na motor is way too huge unless you are over 12.:1 and running huge cams and revving over 9500.

You are correct, sparky. But he said he was doing Hondata. With management you can run 720cc injectors and make them idle like stock. You should know that.

Never heard this term before. You're implying that if a motor responds well to a rich mixture it is considered "dirty"?
How bout if a motor likes lean mix? Is it clean?
