Default Need help with O2 sensor replacement for 98 Accord

Newbie (both to auto repair and this board) here.

Need to replace the O2 sensor for my Honda Accord 1998. Is it easy to replace...I read that , somewhere on the net, there are diagrams floating around on the fuel delivery system. Any help would be appreciated.

TIA

4-cylinder or V-6??

My 4-cyl has 2 oxygen sensors, which one are you talking about & why do you think it needs to be replaced? The 1st sensor is on the exhaust manifold, right up front as you're standing at the bumper (#6).

Simple to replace, there's just a short wire & the plug is right there. There's a special socket you can use because of the wire & plug. Otherwise, it's probably pretty tight so you might have to soak it with penetrant to get it loose.

The 2nd sensor is about the same, but it's underneath the car. You gotta crawl under to reach it.

Thanks for the diagram. Any chance, you would have the same for the rear O2 for the car.

My 1998 accord is 4cyl AT non california version. The reason I beleive it is O2 sensor, because there is engine light on and a mechanic told me that I need the O2 sensor.

what I don't know is which sensor it is, the fron one or the back one. And above all, is there s cheaper placeto buy it from , other than the Dealer.

Look under exhaust manifold (the picture above) then exhaust pipe for the other one.

AutoZone (& probably others) can read the code for you too. If you don't mind splicing wires you can get generic O2 sensors. Even if you don't want to splice, shop around. http://www.manhonda.com & there's probably others too.

I have a 98 Accord 4 cylinder LX, and my secondary O2 has gone twice... mind you, it is because of the gas being used.... I used 91 octane most of the time, then switched to 89 once in a blue moon... bad decision... if you do city driving, it is harder for the motor to properly burn a fuel that remains more stable. Anyways, what I'm saying is that our gen of Accord has a weak Catalytic converter and it tends to mess the secondary O2 sensor up aswell...

Also, I started using only 87 octane unless going on a long drive... and changed my cat, and everything is perfect now...
