Car runs alot faster when cold?
I swapped in a b18a and it pulls real hard right when i start it up but then it gets alot slower as the car warms up more.... i have a filter on the throtle body no intake at all... and i assume that is some of my problem
but it is a HUGE difference between cold and hot.... anyother ideas?
can i get a different thermostat to make my car run cooler?

You should put the intake back on.
what in your god's sake made you take the intake off?
What you are doing is sucking up all the hot air your engine is producing.
You want to breathe fresh air right? Your car does too.

It is like that on most cars. That is because the car is run in open or closed loop (forgot! someone educate me) and the fuel maps are extremely rich.

You mean, the hotter the engine becomes the richer it gets?

the car starts up in open loop, because the secondary O2 sensor has not been heated enough to do anything. So the ecu uses the rest of the sensors and runs a rich mixture to be on the safe side. Then once the secondary O2 heats up it goes into closed loop and runs off of A/F ratio and sensors to determine fuel maps. But also when you first start your car with no filter the car is not heat soaked yet, so you have a denser colder air charge which will also give you better throttle response and HP.

i wouldnt run the car too hard when you first start it up, let it warm up before getting into higher RPMs...
but yes the car does respond a lot better to colder air temperatures.
you can get a cold air intake, higher temp thermostat, performance radiator, or different coolant to run cooler.

what in the world are you doing flooring the car while cold?!?!!
you're going to kill the engine pretty fast doing that.
And since you dont have a intake (just filter)
the engine is not putting out heat therefore you are sucking in cold air, when the engine heats up you suck in hot air.
Cold is better than Hot

I kno the heat thing but what i'm saying is, the difference is huge! and i was wondering if there were any other reasons. I'm not gonna get a CAI cuz i got a full-race turbokit on the way. but thanx for the imput...
where can i find a different thermostat? and how do i know what temperature one i have in there...

open loop = no feedback from sensors
closed loop = feedback from sensors (closing the "loop")
you can't run in closed loop when the car is cold because the o2 sensor is not heated up enough.

Shouldn't change out the thermostat, b/c our engines are made to run at a certain temperature so if you make it run cooler, thenit could be in openloop all the time, waste gas, or damage the motor. Our engines are made to run at a certain temp, no colder, no hotter. But cool the intake charge not the operating temp.
Yeah... I know that is not good to not let ur motor warm up and i'm not an ***... just cuz i said it's stronger when it's cold doesn't mean that i go out and wail on it all the time when it's cold....
i'm looking for useful info about real things... so don't be idiots

no offense to you eresuncabron, i was just telling rasta about the thermostat thing he suggested to you, thats all.
maybe i shouldve reposted his quote so it wouldnt been confusing, making it seem like i was directing it toward you.
