my friends 93LS is running on only one cylinder. he says that he had replaced the dist. but it didnt help. i pulled each of the plug wires while the car was running and #2,3, and 4 had no effect at all. the only one keeping the car running was #1. i suggested a compression test, but what else could be wrong? valvetrain? rings? the car didnt smoke from the exhaust or the breather, so what should we do now? thanks in advance

are those $20 compression testers accurate? does the car have to be running to use it? how exactly does a leakdown test work?
