Alright this thing is notorious for breaking and the problem is so common, I don't think I've EVER seen one that wasn't cracked in someone's car and a new unit is rediculously expensive. SO, I bought a cracked CRX unit for $15 (PO installed Civic unit) and glued it together. The weak spots are between the temp **** and buttons and also the rightside screw mount. So what I did in addition to supergluing the crack was use a lot of silicone behind the temp **** for support. Fill all the cracks and crevices around the temp ****, particularly the area between the **** and the blower switch. For the rightside screw mount I drilled a hole in the metal framing of the dash console and put a set screw into the side of the unit. Now the force of pushing the buttons is perpendicular to the screw instead of parallel. Very simple thing to do and made a huge difference in the overall rigidity. Sorry, don't have any pics...but hope this helps.

i fixed one by using small 1/4 inch self tapping scres with 1/8 inch pilot holes. i jb welded over the tops of them and it is still working after 3 years with no more cracking. i like the extra screw idea. post some pics.
I went to the junkyard and pulled three units... then combined the best components to make it an unbroken unit. just be careful about the hot/cold **** cables.... At the junkyard I just snipped them off the back off the unit. When I got home with them, I used a razor blade to cut the plastic off so I could remove the cables without damaging the plastic clips that hold them in place.
I paid a total of 14$ for all three units.

It's ok, I got another one in my garage, just waiting to be used.

all three of them had uncracked faceplates.... I just cannabalized them for other parts... buttons, hot/cold dial, hot/cold adjuster arm, etc etc.... just go to the junkyard... we have a yard called u-wrech-it and they charge the same price for each part no matter what car it came out of. Some parts can be expensive... They wanted 55$ for a turbocharger... I left it there and got one at a junkyard north of me for $25 (incl. gas to get there)
Maybe my junkyards are just cheap... I don't know, but for me some stuff is a little pricey for what condition some of the parts are in.
