Default $500 too much for a D16a6

well after all the **** i've been through with trying to get a DOHC ZC i've decided to just hit up the local junkyard and get a d16a6 again for my 91si.

BUt after calling around i found 2 available and both places want $500. One place gave me a 30 day warrenty, and the other i didn't ask. But they said they run a compression test and they guarrenty it'll start up. So is it worth it? or should i just go another month (already looking back at 6 months without my car) and wait for a ZC?

All I can say is Yikes....Peeps are selling these for a lot less ( I know I
need one for my HF Rex ). If it were me I'd be paitient an wait for
what you want. One might just be around the corner for you.
Or try these guys out ( they are local to me and all I have heard is good things
about them..so far)

Keep in mind that a full-service salvage yard will always ask more for a given motor than what it would cost from a private party.

well i think a heathy d16a6 complete (ecu, harness, tranny, mounts, axles, ect) is worth about $300-$500. Thats just me though.

I have my FS for $400 complete swap and people are still IMing me about it.

The A6 swap I bought was $400 with 78,000 documented miles. It came with the motor, tranny, and some wiring bits and pieces. Maybe it was a little high, but I couldn't find one for sale in Florida any cheaper.

I get any engine for $150 at my yard and any FWD manual transmission for $75.

All have 30 day warranties, but it's a pick and pull so there's no compression test or anything.

If he could, there would be something horribly horribly wrong with it Anything from any yard that is newer is going to cost more, simple economics.

lol no.

If they ever got a DC integra in, I could get the engine for that price but I've only seen one there so far and the engine was already gone.

They mostly only deal with imports up until '91. Occasionally they'll get newer stuff in but it's rare.

That is not entirely true.

The yards I deal with have set prices for everything. Period.

If they happen to get a newer car in, it'd be the same price for the engine as it would be for a '81 Cavalier.

Well than, I stand corrected and I now have plans for some road-trips to better yards

It was my impression that nearly all of the larger Pick N Pull type places have set prices.

Is that not the case where you are at?

I just picked up a 95 D16Z6 complete longblock. IM, TB, all sensors. $250 w/ a power steering pump thrown in. $500 sounds a bit steep.

Maybe it is West Coast competition that drives down prices, I am constantly getting boned here.

damn you guys went to town on my thread while i was at work.

i'm in new mexico, albuquerque where the import scene is kinda reaching a climax and everyone has bought up all the decent motors and stuff. So thats the best i can get around here. I just need it running soon. Winter is here and the guy who drives me to work..his clutch went out this morning.

So i need an engine pretty much this weekend. Either way i'll be buying it most likely tomorrow and starting a thread about my very first engine swap. its a straight change over...but still a first in the long line i have planned

I know how you feel; I did my first swap with an A6 into my 90 LX back in July and boy was that a learning experience.
