dyno results in =\
well I went down to my shop today and got my dyno, needless to say I was pretty dissapointed in my results I was expecting more in the mid 180 range but maybe i was shooting too high.
i put out 178 whp/ 141 wtq , with the SAE correction. This was after my VAFC II was tuned, before i put out 171/138. my mods are in my sig, what do you think??
Ill try to get graphs up as soon as possible.
Also, one more question my exhaust is so ******* loud now with my test pipe in it is pissing me off
! Its a Kteller test pipe, it is so loud and sounds really raspy, I now shift so low and throttle so lightly so you dont have to hear my ear piercing exhaust
. What reccomendations do you have for making it quiter, im thinking of putting my silencer(if i can find it) in my exhaust to quiet it down but for some reason i think that just wont help. bah help

sorry about the numbers man. but they are pretty common numbers. the test pipe will make it raspy with that exhaust. you will either grow to be used to it, or have to just get a high flow cat or a silencer. maybe even tunable disks
is the high flow cat going to sound pretty much like stock?? if so I may just have to buy one
... oo and another thing im throwing a code because the after cat o2 sensor is not in....smog means nothing in FL so will having the code do anything bad? tha nks

not really. it will be a bit better, but not much. James put his stock intake arm back on with an Apexi cone filter and said it made a world of difference.
I tried a silencer on my n1 exhaust, it doesn't really help quiet it down much.
It's just a different pitch that also sounds like poo with a test pipe

Well I believe that getting rid of the stock cat will give the most gains, as far as exhaust mods usually go (*usually!*).
If you want that little bit of power, you'll need the test pipe...........but your Prelude will now sound like a Civic

The numbers arent that bad, what kind of compression numbers are you pusshing? Have you ever compression tested your motor? That crappy header is holding you back. Cut off the collector and weld on a 2.5inch one. Also with a test pipe you got to expect that sound especially with the N1. If you want to quiet it down somewhat but keep the gains of a test pipe use a resonated test pipe.
No it will not alter HP. You could look right through a resonated test pipe. Its straight through but is basically a resonator used as a test pipe. And yes it will quiet your **** down. Its like adding another resonator to your exhasut system. Man i used to drive my lude with a test pipe and a n1 you *****.
Thats how it starts out, let it all get used to each other. I garuntee you it will get better. Above 2k its not raspy anymore. Its all about hitting abgout 10percent or a little lower when driving normally under 2.5k rpm.
I still don't understand why people keep thinking that cat's are the problem with exhaust systems as they're NOT unless you have a custom header and exhaust to go along with it. The off the shelf systems ARE restrictive enough that you won't get much more than 1-2 whp AT MOST by deleting the cat. If you're worried about the raspiness and/or noise then you can't get away using a test pipe anyway as the cat comb is what reduces a lot of that noise. Just quit polluting excessively and throw a high flow catalyctic converter on. I'm putting out just as much power as you are (a tad higher, but it doens't matter as it's a different dyno) with only I/H/E/VAFC with a catalyctic converter and my ears don't bleed.
Word i feel you on that. A high flow cat i guess really doesnt hurt but some poeple are too cheap and rather get a test pipe made at meineke for like 20 bucks haha. And with this guy, he might aswell keep the stock cat on.
Damn,
I wish you dynoed higher.
Posts like these are the reason why I decided not to mod my Prelude much. I am affraid that I will end up spending a lot fo money and at the end, I will be disappointed with the dyno. That's why I decided to go FI on a car that's designed for FI from the factory...i.e. 240SX. I am going to keep my Prelude close to stock...and just run it NA.
Anyway, I have a Carsound high flow cat and I really like it with my Thermal cat-back. I have an OEM header. I think that the test pipe is the reason why your exhaust note is raspy and loud.
Did the shop that dynoed your car say that tuning could help increase the HP numbers??

yea its just raspy from like 1k - 3k then its like quiet... then if i slam on it past 4k it is SOOO LOUD

I'm in that "loud *** exhaust" situation myself, and it sucks more and more every time I drive the car. DC header, custom 2.5", no cat, and a N1. For those of us who can't take the "civic" sound anymore, can someone recommend a resonator with good muffling ability? Brand/model would great. I'm about to drive my lude to northern Florida (from Ohio) in a few weeks, and I'd love to get a resonator on there before I have to listen to that 4K rpm tone for 16 hours. Plus I miss hearing the JRSC whine.
