Thoughts on the '02 Civic Si
So what does everyone think? I mean...without driving one yet. I'm sure most of you have seen the latest tests on it in the most recent mags.
When does it actually hit showroom floors? I'd really like to test drive one.

02 Civic Si will be a common car in six months.
VIN's will arrive at dealers mid January, with deliveries mid Feb.
15,000, made in England, will arrive in the US.
Expect 17,500 MSRP

In stock form I don't think it will be be much of a performer. The only thing that I can see it's got going for it is that your can build your own Civic Type-R look alike. Also, the engine from the RSX type-s can be swapped into this chasis if I'm not mistaken. (something that you can't do with the Civic Coupe Si's or EX as you call them in the states.
Its Ugly. Its Heavy. The rev limiter pisses me off(6800rpm). The rally style shifter is not needed(hard to put a short shifter in). Top Speed so far according to SCC is 132mph!(SUCK
). All around I think is a peice off ****. Besides the I-Vtec Engine; That's the only thing its got going for it.

Not a lot of people will agree to this, but numberwise it is an improvement over the 99-00 Si. I for one would rather not have to rev to stratospheric revs in order to use the power of my car as in the current B series engines. But some people enjoy 9000+ rpms. I don't consider that daily driving.
I think the previous Si was about 111tq while the latest one claims around 130tq (?). That sounds nicer to me. I'm sure all you torque'less wonders agree.

I think the Si looks a little bit boring. I hope Honda dealers make the Type-R body kit a dealer installed option. Other than that I can't wait to compare it to my 2000 Si.
I thought the release date wasn't until March. I hadn't heard about the limited number in January or February.

i agree...i don't like Si's...too many with euro **** and hyper white **** on them....the shifter looks like a ****** ***** for 2 dykes at a lesbian convention...it's just wack...the toyota matrix makes it look like ****...just don't know
You can say that again hatchback97. The matrix is going to nibble if not eat the new si up! AHHHH The inivetable battle between the VVTL-I VS. I-VTEC!! Example I was on Barret Parkway in Atlanta, GA two or three Saturday nights ago and I personally saw(and 15 other people) a Type-R and a Celica GT-S race off the light. Both of them had an intake and exhaust. And let me tell you it was a GREAT race!, but guess what THE TYPE-R AND CELICA GT-S WERE A TIE!!!
WOW
Now I know that was the VVTL-I vs. DOHC VTEC. And the new si is a I-VTEC but its not the RSX Type-S either. So we'll see!!!!

I can't wait for the new Si to come out!
Just more people to embarass at the next redlight
We'll see what kind of people buy this new Si. I hate to stereotype, but I'm thinking a lot of people will buy it because of the hype and really think it's fast as **** - much like the 99-00 Si at first.
DON'T rip me for the 99-00 comment - I've just seen a lot of "average joes" who think the 99-00 Si was as fast as Camaro Z28's and **** stock because they saw it on the cover of Sport Compact Car back when it came out.
The hype will make a lot of people buy it. The hype will also inspire those who buy the new Si hatches to race every Honda they cross - including me hopefully!

If you don't want high rpm's and a good quality speed car, get a coupe!!!
Well, I guess the time has changed the way the car looks these days huh. i am pretty sure that our eyes will get use to the shape of the car. Just like when people said.......wow.......look at that biiiig head lights.... for the EK's, it probably will be the same thing. and I personally think that the shifter does look very nasty, but functionally, it's probably really really thought out well, because less travel for your arms to reach to the shifters.
I sat in one and I actually like it!
The short overhang gives you a perfect view of the road. The seats are awesome, set in the same fabric as the ITRs. It maybe a tad heavy for a hatch, but with the back area kinda short (should be considered 2+2), I would gut the rear. The increase in torque definately helps out a lot! Basically it's a base RSX engine. As far as the shifter, it is placed at the optimum level and it's cable driven. A short-shifter adapter can be added just like the last gen Prelude. The dual tips on the exhaust looks really mean. My only complaint are the tires that are choosen. They are 195/60 tires, I would drop those and throw on 205/50 or 205/45 for better patch and cornerability. If i had the money, I would get one.
my $.02
