Default Weather affecting CAI and Short Ram intakes

I know everyone hates the CAI vs. Short Ram intakes but I have searched the whole forum and found nothing regarding weather affects on intakes. I live in Central Canada and it get super cold in the winter here. I want to get a Short Ram intake for my 97 lude SH but am not sure of the weather affects on the intakes. If I had a CAI, would the very cold weather make the intake not work as well as a Short Ram would? All suggestions will be appreciated.

what if it's -60 C with the windshield? Is that cold enough? It's hard enough to star the car in that kind of weather, never-mind sucking in frozen air into the intake.....not too be an *** or anything, it's just that this is what it's like here and I don't need any more trouble starting my car in the winter if I have a CAI.....that's why im leaning towards the short ram.

Get a short ram. In that extreme of temp, you dont want the filter hanging outside of the engine bay, at least i know i wouldent. If you do decide to get a CAI, make sure you still have your splash guard installed, or you might suck snow. ( no point in having a CAI with the massive splash guard in the way block airflow.)

Well, you gotta keep in mind that your car will make more horsepower with a colder air charge; this is partly how nitrous oxide works. BUT it will also lean out your a/f ratio. If the temperature varies a good bit up there, I would stick w/ a SRI just b/c I'd be kinda afraid the intake sitting outside of the engine bay would get wet and freeze.

I am from Canada, have done my research and am picking up a Type-S intake in 1 hr. This also gives you a smooth power gain through the whole RPM range. You don't loose any low end torque. No risk of hydrolocking...... acts as stock.

sigh...if it is a cold crisp night, a short ram will work as well as a CAI, really it is affected when you are getting hot air going into your engine bay, and your short ram is breaking super warm air, as opposed to decetly warm air. With a CAI, you still need cold crisp air....Considering a pavement street can boil and egg, and the CAI is about a foot above....meh....

either way, colder crisper air is better.

[edit]Oh yeah, and no snow gets sucked up into a short ram, lol[/edit]

That's what I though. I wasthinking of just getting both....a short ram for the winter and a CAI for the summer but I dont think it really matters. Im only going to drive the lude for this winter only until I get my toyota a new engine (which will be the winter beater). I guess ill just stick with the ram air, it seems to be the better choice for the bottom end tourque......not that an intake will give me much power but whatever Gotta start somewhere I guess. In the future, I will be getting a JRSC but until then, id like to get the lude prepared for the upgrade.
