Default Newbie with questions....

Hello, all.

I recently purchased a 1995 Civic Si, stock motor, but with eibach springs and Tokico struts. This car is bouncy!!!

Anyway, I have a question about gas mileage. In all city driving I usually get around 180-200 miles to the tank. (I think. the gas gauge constantly flucuates. I tried running it close to E but ran out of gas befor it even got there). I usually fill up at about a quarter tank and put in around 8 gallons. So, 180 miles divided by 8 gallons is about 22-23 mpg. I'm a bit disappointed in this because, well, I guess I was always under the impression that Civics are super fuel efficient. My old Saab got better gas mileage in the city. Aren't these cars, even the Sis, suppossed to get at least 30 mpg?

I don't race the car and usually shift between 3-5,000 rpm. Do I need a tune up? The car seems to run fine. Smooth, no hesitation, it doesn't seem sluggish.

One more quick question: My sunroof kind of wobbles when I open it. At one point it stopped working, but then I washed the car and it magically started working again. It has yet to act up again. Is the motor on the way out?

Thanks for your help. This is my first Honda and I want this to be a good experience.

Whats the mileage? IF the car has high miles and depending on the last tune up..im sure a tune up wouldnt hurt.

I would definatley do a basic tune-up.
Sparkplugs, dist cap and rotor, valve adjustment, air filter, fuel filter, and maybe a fuel cleaner.

Your sunroof wobbles? You mean as it opens it shudders, kind of like its sticking?
If so, try cleaning the rails on the sunroof a bit and spray some wd40 in there..
My old ex used to do that. Lubing it every couple months kept the problem from returning.

Do the tune up and go from there.

And the sunroofs seem to do that, cuz I had that problem too on my old SI. Lube the rails and you'll be good.

Oh and welcome to Honda-Tech

Yeah, I guess it shutters more than wobbles. I will lube it up with some WD40.

The mileage on the car is 158,xxx. The last owner (the only other one besides me) was very particular about the car. He always used Mobil 1, that sort of thing, but I didn't ask about the last tune up. I guess I will buy some plugs, wires, air filter, etc, and go from there.

I found http://www.ngk.com. Is that a good place to buy the parts? Does this board have a hook up with dealers for OEM parts? When I had my SE-R, the memebers of se-r.net got discounts from dealers across the country on OEM parts, usually around 20-25%

Again, thanks for the replys.
