Default Running hot after Skunk2 Install

I recently decided to give the skunk2 intake manifold a whirl, and after installation (which was a pain in the *** i might add) car seems to run quite a bit hotter sitting at idle. Ive bled the system twice, probably going for another bleed tonight after work, but is anyone else experiencing this problem ? Temp comes back down soon as i start moving, but sitting at a long light or in a drive thru and the temp goes wacky.

Something seems off there. I doubt anyhting about the mani would cause this. Double check, you might have missed something when installing the mani.

Do you think it may be down to not having the heatshield now ? I would expect things to be hotter in the bay now it's gone, and once you get some airflow for the system to drop temperature to near normal.

you also changed your intake arm as well. granted it went from short ram to stock arm but still. maybe that made a difference.

try using that insulation i told you Jon used. ill have him email you with exactly what it was.

lol

I would suggest bleeding the system long and good, the correct way. When it runs hot again, pop the hood and feel the radiator hose; does it feel like it's running that hot? If not, it may just be a bubble.

I don't see how an intake mani would cause it to overheat.

I dont understand eaither. I did swap back to the stock intake arm, and the header im using does put out quite a bit of heat, serious heat. I may have to consider heat wrapping stuff under my hood. Im waiting to see what type of insulation john used on his intake, maybe i could fabricate some type of cold box like teg's and civic's have.

Heat from the header shouldn't be a problem.

I've done some hard mountain driving in my car w/ a header w/ no heatshield, as have a number of cars I have seen, and have never had an overheating problem from it. Underhood temps will go up considerably, but nothing drastic that can affect that. Oh, and I, as well as most others, were running a metal CAI like AEM.

Damn, I thought you said you were going to stop modding your car. lol

Anyway, how are you bleeding the cooling system?? I have bled MANY cooling systems. To this day, I have yet to use the bleeder valve. I fill up the radiator with 50/50 mix until the coolant level stops going down. Then, I start the car, with the rad. cap off, let it warm up with the heater on, and I wait for the coolant level to go down. When it does, I add more until it starts to overflow a little. Then I cap it off. That should be good enough. If you do it this way, I don't think the coolant is causing the problem.

How soon does your car start to over heat while your car is at a stand-still?? Do your fans come on??

fans are fine.

Im using water and Neo keep cool.
the first two times ive bled the system i didnt turn the heater on, so ill probably bleed it again before i leave work with the heater on and what not. Only other thing i could think of, other than the fact that my damn IACV isnt connected!!! lol, dont think that would cause over-heating though, it might. Got to eaither relocate that sombitch or legenten the wires.

and i think i am done modding my car once i get it running correctly. Maybe she will be an autocross ****, havent decided yet. Anyone lookin to buy a 98 type sh that isnt a type sh ? lol

Oh come on, keep the responses educated and helpful. Reseting the ECU has no impact on how hot the vehicle runs. If it is in deed caused by the Skunk 2 you can always swap the stock one back on and see if the condition persists. if the condition goes away when you swap the stock manifold back on than get a low temp thermostat and low temp fan switch when you install the skunk2 again see if that helps. If the conditon persists when you swap the stock manifold back on then pull you spark plugs out and check the tip for cylinder burning conditons (plug color). Are you using excessive coolant? maybe you overtightend a bolt on the head warping the head a bit (I see head work do you have a milled head? as tightening bolts is super critical when milling has been done.), there are a number of possibilities. When you say quite a bit hotter are we talking 3/4 the way up the temp guage or just a little bit? Your IACV has no impact on how hot the car runs the primary functions is to adjust fuel, ignition, RPM revs at startup.

Are you talking about hot EGT's or hot coolant or hot oil temps? What are you using to measure it? If you're using the stock coolant gauge it means absolutely nothing.

So what else do you have done with your engine along with the Skunk2? Any noticeable differences with it on now?

dude, i was kidding for christ sake. lol i didnt reset the ecu, whoever suggested that is an absolute tard.

Before the manifold i was putting 194/154 i think. The chart is in the vehicle. Retune soon and time to get rid of that damn code 9, messing up my ignition. car pulls INSANELY hard at vtec. After fixing the overheating problem, its like a whole new car.

Upon the 5th check, i finally cought what i missed, damnit do i feel STUPID. lol im such a tard im not even going to say what was wrong.
