9003 to h4 bulbs
a 9003 and an H4 are the same bulb. One is a north american designation and the other is european, but it's the same bulb so no need to change anything.

i thought h4's came stock on some bimmers? im pretty sure my brothers M3 uses H4 bulbs..maybe because its a european car.
i just wanna make sure the h4 bulb can plug into the 9003 plug because the headlights im getting fit the h4 bulb. theyre the black housing ones with city light hole (not angel eye projectors) off ebay for like $70..

does he have an E30 m3? then it might have h4 if he has euro ellipsoids. if he has a e36 with US lights, he is using 9006. if he has an e36 with euro lights, they could be h7 or h1
typically, projectors off ebay use h3 (really shitty output) or h1 bulbs. they should come with an adapter to plug into your stock harness

hes got an e36 with the stock headlights. i dunno what the bulbs are but some people on bimmerforums do h4 conversion fog lights which looks badass..anyway, i didnt realize the H bulbs and 900_ were all the same just US and Euro..
i used to have a set of denji projectors, the output sucked and then eventually stopped working. so im just going with the black housing with city light hole.

Actually, H4 is also a motorcycle designation.
A true 9003 is different from a true H4. But practically all manufacturers have made it so they're basically the same bulb. Some, like Osram-Sylvania have both H4 and HB2 and/or 9003 on the bulb base. Some are packaged as 9003/HB2 while others are packaged as H4. Despite being the same bulb, some stores will actually sell one bulb cheaper than the other, despite both being made by the same company.
H4 in theory is supposed to be made to higher tolerances than a 9003 bulb, probably because of the conditions on a motorcycle as compared to a car.
A true H4 will fit in a 9003 application, while a true 9003 will not fit in a true H4 housing. H4s have three tabs in a triangular configuration (ie, like a Colonial Viper). The bottom two are different sizes, one being fat and one being skinny. Both bottom tabs on a 9003 are the same. But nowadays, everything is now pretty much interchangeable.
