To protect from rock chips while drag racing (bigger slicks and side of car)
Anywas I hope to not get any stupid comments and most of you know my car and how it looks and performs. Anywyas I have only been to the track twice cause I dont want to ****** chip the paint no more, I mean yeah I guess 11.7 on pump/full interior was good but I know it has a good mid to low 11 sec pass easy in her (race and still full interior).
What can I coat the side of the car with or do to protect or help against rock chips and what not?
I know sonme of you have really sweet looking ride that drag race them as well
thanks Kenny

I see a lot of people putting the blue painter tape on the side and front of their car. I am not sure how hard it is to get off if the hot rubber gets stuck on if it will melt the tape.
Also did you ever look into the clear bra? I know you can get anything covered in it. It is expensive but works great.

I don't know about rocks, but an old trick is to put vaseline on the side of car to prevent the melted rubber from sticking to your panels permanently.

Lots of people also put normal car wax on the car around the areas that the rubber get onto. Just wipe on before the track......wipe off before you leave.
I know that all the show guys that have nice paint jobs and actually drive the cars to shows all use that blue masking tape. They cover their entire fronts of the car with the stuff so they dont get rock chips and what not...I would go that route. Peels of really easy and doesnt mess the paint at all...obviously if show cars do it.
I use Pam cooking oil in the spray bottle. The rubber wipes right off with a light coat before you race. As for rock chips, not much you can do besides maybe tape some cardboard or something to your fenders.

For that hot soap water and a rag work well and never harmed my paint and my paint is pretty mint and I liek to keep it that way but yeah the wax or pam will fix that up.

To clear a few things up...
That tape is made by 3M, it is painters tape and will peel off easily no matter what, so no, whoever said you need a heat gun is wrong.
The tape can prevent chipping, but it cannot prevent dents because obviously the tape is like 1/100" thick.
I would never wipe wax on the side and just let it sit there all day while you race unless you dont care about your paint. Not a good idea.
I suppose some cooking oil might work, but I know a lot of people dont want PAM on their fenders.
Before you go to the track, clean the car, clay and wax the fenders and the rubber wont stick nearly as much. If there is any left over rubber just clay it again when you get home, problem solved.

Maybe you can get something magnetic to put on your car. You know how some companies and stuff get those magnetic advertisement things to stick on there car maybe you can get some of that and cut it to the shapes that you need and stick them where rocks are most likely to hit the paint. That would be quicka nd easy for sure. Of course it wouldnt stick to the front bumper but from my experience drag racing I never got to many chips up there. Just behind the front wheels
i wouldnt worry about rock chips on the front, you could use some mud flaps on the front to protect against the rubber possibly chippign your paint on the side but u might have to trim for your sideskirts, or maybe you could sport a braw at the track... or hell, you could just put on differnet fenders bumper and a different hood and then mud flaps etc i thought i saw the guy from endless garage with that gold EK do that **** at the track... reguardless tho if u race your car there is the possibility you gotta pay to play.
Personally, if i was a judge at a car show id like to see rock chips and signs of wear at different spots of the car because it adds character to the car instead of it just being some stupid modelish looking car.

Ever seen the signal cars at the track? they look mean as hell with all the paint chips and rubber marks on the back. of course thats just my opinion. which seems to be the minority here. hehe.
