How do you get around this w/o returning your car to stock every so often?

 

here in pa they only do a visual check if your car is 95 and older 96 and newer obd2 cars they connect your obd2 port to a computer and read if there is any codes if not you pass if codes you fail. It helps to know people to. Also in PA if you drive your car less then 5000 miles a year you can get emissions exempt.

 

no visual in Oregon..... 96+ gets the obdII scan. I still registered my car out of the smog area just in case

 

Here in NY, pay someone to pass you for inspection.

 

I ask because I'm getting rid of this car to get a more practical SUV. But then I plan on getting a project Teg, hatch or RX7 and going all out on it but I was worried about emissions. If the car is OBDII but I convert to OBDI for engine management, how would the scanning work? Would I have to put the OBDII ecu back in just for that? If so, would the car even run right (no boosting of course).

 

All I did was drive in... and didn't say a word. They did their thing, sniffer and all, and gave me my passing slip. It was extremely smooth. (CT)...

Not anymore starting the 20th of this month if your OBDII.

 

I passed the sniffer test here in WA. They tried to connect to the ECU first, but I just told them my '99SI had an OBDI ECU so they did the sniffer instead.

u told them about your obd1 and they passed it. wow i need someone like that.

 

yea I thought it was illeagal to convert to an older OBD

 

I got a question, what happens if your car use to be automatic but now your stick with turbo and obd2. Is there anyway to pass if I take off the turbo and just have the car register as an obd2 auto but with a manual transmission and obd1 ecu.

 

i got an obd2 96 civic .. no cat or second o2 sensor.. i just use a o2 simulator.. here in illinois they just test the computer on obd2 cars... my friend has a suburban which didnt pass so he registered it to a p.o. box in an area where they dont do emission tests.. my first car was like that it was registered at our familys second home and i never had to take a test in my old 85 prelude...

 

hmm, maybe I could use the Florida address... Does Florida have emissions?

If I want to registered in a state that doesnt need emissions to pass, do I need to bring my car down there or can I just go there and get a driver licence there and register the car and that's it?

im not sure man.. mine was registered in the same state just in the middle of nowhere was our other house.. it was like 75 miles to the nearest emission station so i didnt have to go... now my 96 civic i have registered in chicago so i have to go.. but when i do the 5 speed swap and obd1 conversion im gonna register it at the other house again so i dont have to take it for emission testing...

I don't know about the laws in your state, but when they were trying to interface with the ECU and getting nothing, I just casually said, "Yeah, this thing has an OBD1 computer in it" and they just ran the sniff test.

That's wat I mean. If you register it at your other house than do you have to bring your car down there or can u just bring them your paper work for the car?

 

here in Ohio they check for OBD-II for '96 and up cars, since mine is converted to OBD-I the guys freaked out a little bit, got confused and did the tailpipe test, and then it failed

that was saturday (10/2/04) and now i'm stuck with a car I can't get plates for

TOO much government, I thought we hired them, why are THEY telling US what to do?

Okay so I have a 99 integra. When I go to the inspection station, and they hook up to my "data link" or "diagnostic port" whatever you want to call it, they'll get nothing back, correct? It doesn't harm the obd I ecu or anything?
