kinda overevved engine....actaully misshift
well this happened to me over the weekend. one of my boyz got lost try n to get away from the cops when they busted a street race so he calls me and im giving him directions on where to go. i had already left the races and was heading home on the highway. so im about to shift into 5th with the phone still n my hand and i misshifted from 5th to third. the car revved up really high; i glanced at my tach and seen it over 8K (this is a stock bottom end LS motor). i quickly clutched down and the rpm's dropped back down. i pulled over to check to see/hear if the engine was running good and sounded normal. drove home and havent had any problems since. i had just installed a set of crower 403 cams with upgraded valve springs/retainers (thank god. might of thrown a valve with the stock springs). those springs probably saved me.
yes i know im gonna get flamed for misshifting and talk n on the phone (i was on nextel 2 way), but this was the first time my car reved up so high. i shouldnt have any problems come up later down the road because of this right? just letting the motor rev up past 8K just once couldnt have done some serious damage right, cuz everything seems normal in the engine right now...

your right.. i think those springs saved you. Those springs are rated to over 8000 rpm.. so im sure your OK as long as you dont hear any ticking or feel major loss of power or anything
alright thanks alot for the info's. im going to the track this weekend so i hope i dont blow something. friday im gonna do a valve lash and and some minor tuning.
if i had cracked a piston it woulda given me an excuse to put in a set of pr3 pistons in my block, but im just gonna have to wait another few months. i need some security in my bottom end. i know the head can handle the high rpms, i need some arp rod bolts for my ls rods!

for the springs.
this is why i get pissed when people just throw in cams and dont upgrade the springs...i mean, WHY? the cams wanna take you higher, yet you run stock springs? makes no sense.
good for you bro, you saved yourself some grief.

no i don't think you would get flamed for mis-shifting, this will happen to almost everyone who drives stick at some point or another, but you should get flamed for street racing

lol, i wasnt lost. i was give n directions to my friend who was lost. yea i shouldnt have been speeding.... i was ripping through the gears on the highway TRY n to catch up with my friends turbo hatch.
and i wasnt street racing, just went to watch my friend make a pass in his turbo hatch! no one wanted to race him cuz the **** was too fast.... he had no front bumper on the car and running with 24" slicks. drove on the highway with this setup too!!!! lol
