Salvage title perchased ( 2000 civic si )?
I'm planning to buy this car very soon...blk 2000 civic Si, 70,000 miles, stock b16, mugen rims + front lip and back, jdm fog lights, J-Spec suspension and other minor accessories. Anyhow, its not a clean title... the car got hit from behind and got fixed like new. Very clean car; runs great...My question is ...1. What are the disadvantages of buying a salvaged car like this one? 2.Say if the car happens to get in an accident and got totaled with full coverage...will I get the blue book value of the car even though title is not clean? 3. The price for the car is 8,000 flat..what do u folks think?

sounds pretty good, my car is salvage title to but it was theft recovery. but if you get an accident or what not your insurace will usually only give you half of what the total cost of the accident. thats is what AAA was telling me.
this should help:

- Accident/total
- Flood damage
- Theft damage
- Fire damage
- Blown motor
Basically a car can be totalled for any reason that the repair costs exceed 2/3rds of the value of the car. Once insurance totals it the car is given a salvage title.
Now - people freak out when they see "salvage" title and I am not entirely sure why. I have owned 2 cars that started life with me as salvage titled cars and I had ZERO problems out of ANY of them. They were all cheap cars that I didn't pay a lot of money for. One had been rear ended and pushed into a car in front of it. The repair work was done very well. The car was straight and it aligned on the money every time. I drove it on the street and raced it on track for over a year.
Another was a theft recovery. The damage that totalled the car was that it was stripped. The guy I had got it from was in the process of rebuilding it but didn't have the time to finish it. Now in this case what is wrong with this car? The fact that it is "salvage" in NO WAY indicates that this vehicle is not roadworthy. It in NO WAY says that it will have future problems.
All salvage means is that an insurance company paid out a total claim on that vehicle. It doesn't tell you why it was paid out.</TD></TR></TABLE>

My car that I am trying to sell right now has a salvage title. It has been for sale for awhile, it might be because of the title but I'm not sure.
It was in an accient and hood, bumper, and fenders were replaced but no airbags were deployed. The cars runs great for me and you cannot even tell theat it was in an accident.
So,
1. I would a disadvantage would be trying to sell it whenever (if) you decide to.
2. I'm not sure about that one, sorry.
3. That seems like a really good price to me considering it's an Si, the mugen wheels, suspension, etc.
If it were me, I'd get it for sure.

can you get full coverage on a salvaged vehicle?
i didnt think you could. I kept my car after an accident, its title became a salvage and the insurance company wouldnt give me full coverage anymore.

i am in the process of rebuilding my own car which was hit from the behind. Its a 99 civic hatch...I work at a body shop and im doing the work, for this reason im not worried about the structural integrity (spelling check) of my car. If i were u i would mos def go check out the body shop were the work was done. good luck
Well I know my grandfarther bought a car in Mass that was a salvage title. Then moved to FL and now its not considered a salavage title. I think if you transfer a title state to state (or maybe to Fl) it will lose it salvage stats???? So in the future if a person you didnt like wanted to buy the car or a dealer then you wouldnt have to tell them it was a salvage car unless they asked.
i think that is too much. i got my black civic si in southern california for 9350 and it has a clean title. i have owned it for nine months and no problems whatsoever. the car only had 49900 on the odometer when i bought it. everything checked out clean with the carfax and the places the guy told me he lived. it shows where it has been registered and stuff like that. i would keep looking if i were you
i dont know where you live but in texas they dont cost that much. unless you buy from a dealer. they go for 7-9k here in the houston area. hell i tried to sell mine a couple of months ago for 9k no one bit. i would sell it now for 8k tho
they are not realy that special anymore. as a matter of fact it makes a crappy platform to start from.

I'm a licenced insurance agent (in New Mexico anyway) and no, you can't get comprehensive or collision coverage on a salvage title. As another poster pointed out, often when a salvage title gets transferred from state to state, somebody goofs and the salvage gets wiped off the title. This is a non-legit, but common way to increase the value of a salvage vehicle literally overnight.

yeah i have heard that too. but i know mine for a fact was not salvaged because the loan was still with honda. if a car gets wrecked, the insurance company will pay off the loan and give you the difference. then if you want to fix it then you can buy it back and rebuild it. at that point an individual and not a company or bank will have hold of the title. i was really paranoid about getting screwed so i took every measure i knew of to make sure the car was not salavaged.so i was relieved to find out that honda, the original loan company, had hold of the title of the car.
