I get really bad gas mileage compared to sme of you guys...why?
I see a lot of people who say that they get 250 to 270 miles per tank. I usually get like 225 to 235 before the little light comes on. I averaged it out and the best mpg I've gotten ever is 25.15 and that was with 85 miles of highway. Other tanks of gas usually consist of all local driving and I've gotten 22.24, 22.5, and 21.5 mpg. Why is that? Is it cause I shift at too high of an RPM? I usually shift at anywhere from 3500 to 5000 if the engine is completly warmed. I usually VTEC about once or twice day but definately not everytime I drive. I did misshift once, a while back, from 3rd to 2nd but nothing seems to be wrong cause I dont have a lumpy idle and my car runs just fine; perhaps because I hit neutral as quick as I could when I saw my revs pass 8000. What could be wrong?
Hmm, I was getting bad gas mileage somewhat similar to that. But then, I decided to keep my revs always atleast over 3k anytime on the road. This mean cruising the streets in 4th rather than 5th, and so on. I know, it always feels like you should shift, but it has made a difference!
You probably drive like me. Like an animal.
I hit VTEC on the way to work, on the way home, on the way out and on the way home again.. numerous times.
Also, I have 50psi fuel pressure..
and I'm sure the ATS final drive doesnt help much.
I'm lucky if i get 210 per tank.
But who cares about gas mileage? If it made a difference, you should be driving a Corolla or a Insight.

For reference:
2000 Australian ITR
98 Octane fuel
I consistently get about 280 miles before the light comes on. More accurately I'm getting around 28mpg.
And yes, I hit Vtec every day several times on my way to and from work/wherever.
But there is another ITR owner here in Perth who was getting much worse than myself, more like 20-21mpg. He consistently drives his ITR harder than I do, though. Both cars were stock at the time we took the measurements (one now has an icebox, the other is now JRSCed).
Not sure if that helps at all, but I thought I'd contribute more data.

So is it safe to say that aftermarket cams improve gas mileage? Or is it all of the tuning that they require that makes the real difference?
so wait, my gas mileage isnt that bad then? I mean I was a bit supprised that some of you guys get such great gas mileage cause EPA only rates our car at 24mpg in local driving. Just to share, my friends with V6's only get 2 mpg less than I do.
