Default Crx Will Not Go To Gear **Need Help, Urgent**

I have a 1988 d15b2 crx with nothing done to it. I just replaced the clutch in my car with the help of my father in law. ((Just giving some background on the car)) I was on my way home today and I hit this huge pot hole and as soon as I did I heard a loud pop. I looked behind me and didnt see anything that flew loose falling out the back. I then tried to put the car into 4th gear and it would not go into gear. I coasted down the hill and pulled the car into my parking lot and looked under the hood. I didn't notice anything out of place except for the clutch cable.. It looked as if it was stretched... Im guess that was the loud pop. The car will go into gear when the car is off and the clutch is pressed however when the car is turned on it will not go into any gear at all. I tried to tighten up the cable just to be sure I still go the same results.. Ive got a big trip to get to tomorrow and I need my car asap.. Not to drive it but to get to sc to meet my dad and then start the trip.. SO any help and quick response would be great.. Thanks in advance

Adjust the cable so there is 1/8 inch of freeplay. How can you tell its stretched? Something internally could have broke as well.

Well thats a good point, Im not very savvy with cars.. I goes I was looking at the right below where it is tighten at... I havent even had a chance to jack the car up to see if the linkage is still hooked up.. I just replaced the clutch about 400 miles ago.. I did notice it start making a clicking noise when shifting gears and if the tach went above 4k

Axle might have popped out of place if you hit a pot hole?

If the axle would of popped out I would be able to engage the clutch but the car wouldnt go anywhere right? If the car is on I cant put it into any gear it just grinds

the end of the clutch cable probally was not entirely seated into the realease arm and it finally gave out and popped in all the way, this happend to me once when i didnt double check the cable. just tighten the cable till you get a desireable pedal to it.

you can probably shift with the car off regardless if you pushing in the pedal or not. it sounds like the cable either shifted or broke. try screwing the nut and see it will tighten.

**Update** Im guessing that nothing is wrong as far as inside my clutch... My car with move forward and in reverse... I can put it in gear with the car turned off and then let off the clutch and the car moves.... I can tighten down on the clutch cable as well but it still brings no results.

EDIT:

point the front of the car downhill and put the shifter in reverse with engine off.

push in the clutch pedal.. Will it roll down the hill?

so with the car in gear it holds the car still ( when motor off). but if u press the clutch the car will roll... sounds like the cable mechanism is fine.

are you hearing any chattering at all? like ticking (with the clutch in or out)?

no type of chattering or loud noises with the clucth in or out... or while moving in first gear or reverse... No vibrations at all either.....

If it slips then it's too tight or your clutch is toast.
