Default Valvespring/Retainer assembly

I just purchased Skunk 2 valve springs and a set of Ti retainers. I was wondering how many retainers i am SUPPOSED to have total because i have only 16 total. Any info would help.

You got the correct amount.

4 Valves per cylinder, 4 cylinders = 16 valves

Hence 16 Valve Dual Overhead Cam

You should have 16 Valve Springs, and 16 Retainers

curious to know what holds the spring in place when you have the valve keepers, retainer and spring on.

I am pretty sure that it is the keepers that hold it on. . .

I removed my valve springs last weekend using the deep socket and BFH technique. . . it seemed like when both keepers came out, so did the valve.

When even 1 keeper was still in there everything still held.
