Need to Replace Muffler on My Own - Need Instructions
Hey. I am an amateur with cars but handy with most anything. I want to replace my muffler on my own and wanted to know how I go about finding instruction to walk me thru the process.
Anyone know of any websites that can help with the process? Any help on this is greatly appreciated. Please let me know.
Thanks.
Joe

for what? the muffler is two bolts...
for what? the muffler is two bolts...
use an angle grinder and cut the old one off, and use those clamps to attach the new one (you may have to get an adapter depending on the size of your muffler inlets and your current pipes), then use some of that liquid exhaust sealer stuff on the seams to make sure you get everthing.......if you don't have an angle grinder, you could use a hack saw, but it would take forever....
If you are doing a stock muffler, it's a simple matter of just bolting it together. Get a new "donut" gasket.
If it's a modified system, unless you have a welder I'd recommend that you just have a muffler shop do it. Make up a list of what you want the shop to do and discuss it with them BEFORE getting the final price! Discuss things like what type of "tip" you want and the location (how far out it sticks). Make sure that they are using ALL factory rubber hangers. Make sure that they install flanges so that the system can be removed if you have to (I wasn't clear about this with one shop and they installed the WHOLE system as one piece, from cat to tail pipe tip. I had to cut it out with a hack saw to do it correctly)
