Who knows exactly what Karl is thinking?
Who knows what he'll actually do?
I do know that anything he does with cars will be ..... Ridiculous.
I suppose I could have used another word. I heard this one the way it comes out of Daffy Ducks mouth.
Race Cars are Ridiculous.
Oh, sure...Scott Giles can argue that his ITC car is super cheap to operate.
And Karl can envision a future with a real purpose built race car - one that works well and is less of a displeasure to work on.
But there is no escaping the objective reality of either course. Ridiculous full speed ahead in every direction.
Maybe those of us who struggle with who we are, what we do, and not least: what we can afford, should embrace our insanity instead of holding at arms length and saying "Nah, that's not me - couldn't be".
"Yes" we might say unashamedly "I have done this stupid thing"..."In fact I AM stupid"...."I LIKE being stupid"...."You're just jealous because you aren't having anywhere near this much fun"..."Ignore that greasy fellow cursing under that production based race kaa".
Karl! To thine own self be troo. Build the CRX into a Race Kaa!
Scott, who resents anyone smarter than himself...so I give advice like this...I have embraced my badness...Hell, I'm ready to get into the business!

The meaning/purpose of life?
To have fun and enjoy yourself...
I too am rediculous very rediculous, and the things I do, well...

Scott,
Guess where we'll be racin' this weekend? .... and the weather looks good!
Karl can't build the CRX. He promised not to race a production-based kaa ever again.
John -- who gives the business to Scott like this..... just rent a U-Haul and come enter the race this weekend.
[Ben Stiller]Do it. Do it. Do it.

Uh-oh.
I'm hiding behind my chair - peeking over the top at my screen...In Shame!
"Uh, I can't race because the sores on my back from karting haven't healed yet".
"Uhm, I don't want to drive my car again till I get the Moton's on - and I haven't worked on them in weeks".
"Fu-uck, I don't have time to get ready because I've been watching O'Reilly interview Bush all week, and Thursday night there's a Yes concert on PBS".
Scott, who at this point is considering himself as ready to begin a serious effort...for 2005!
BTW - Are we going to have a NW Classic again this year? BMW Club on Oct 30th?

Do I need to see "Dodgeball"?
Scott, who is anxiously waiting for "Team America"..

I have never met Scott in person, even though I have been to PIR four times in the last year. I have this mental picture of what he looks like....I am wondering how close I am to the "truth."
-Jeremy, who will one day soon meet this legendary internet persona and probably chuckle to myself (thinking of his posts over the last year or so).

I makes me feel uncomfortable when people meet me for the first time and chuckle to themselves.

Starsky and Hutch.
Now that I look at it, October 30th doesn't work for me. Moving into the new house that weekend.

It's all an exercise in stupidity.
I bought what is, for me anyway, the best possible tow vehicle...and a couple months later put the race car up for sale.
I drive a Radical, decide that a sports racer is what I need, and start the savings account by buying a tired old CRX.
I bought a quick release steering wheel adapter a month ago. Two months after putting the race car up for sale, yet one month *before* buying the CRX.
I sell a perfectly functional trailer to a friend, in want of a brand new one that I don't have to replace tires and bearings on. Only to find, about a week later, that steel prices have gone through the roof and trailers are now not so cheap. The solution to this? I now want an enclosed trailer. For the Integra that is for sale, for the Radical I don't own, for the CRX that prevented me buying a trailer this week in the first place.
So you see, sometimes I think I crack the code andmake a good decision. "I'm buying a sports racer." But then I go and do something...ridiculous. Like looking at a 208K mile CRX and saying, "Yeah, that's for me!" instead of putting that money towards the Radical Fund.
Ridiculous.

Karl,
I'm nearly weeping.
YOU ARE A GOD!
Scott, who is quite simply "not worthy"...

Next time you're staring at a set of Motons in the garage (which are of course STILL not attached to the ITR), remind yourself of this. I paid $26K for a tow vehicle in order to tow a car that I want to sell. Presumably towed on a trailer that I sold...BEFORE buying the $26K tow vehicle.
And I put about $1K into it to make it "tow better."
Those of you who think you're doing something stupid, I offer these situations in hopes that they will make you feel better.

That's strange...I don't feel any better....
Am I supposed to feel better because whatever I'm doing isn't as stupid?
Or am I supposed to feel better because now, forewarned, I'm theoretically much less likely to do anything nearly that stupid?
Or because, being sooo competitive, I'm now likely to do something even more stupid because I just can't help it?
Scott, who is confused and engorged...

The expected response is "Yeah, but at least I'm not that Karl [or Scott R, or Scott G, or...] guy, he's REALLY an idiot."
The good news: I just sold the BMW for what I've got in it, to a fellow car guy. Could have sold it for a few hundred dollars more, but didnt feel like hassling with it.
Am I getting better? Or worse?

If you left the CRX alone, you *might* have a status quo for this week.
But you wont. So you're already sliding down the slippery slope and dont feel it yet... and wont know it until you're halfway down, screaming helplessly, waiting for the only thing that can stop you - the painful crash at the bottom

Thursday night there's a Yes concert on PBS".
Seriously? No, really. Seriously?
Old Yes? New Yes? Or new old Yes?
And it is all ridiculous, but at levels.
Taking a perfectly good, and high resell value GSR and detroying it in the name of making it a racecar, while investing nearly enough money to purchase something like a Radical... Now thats pretty stupid. But not as completely stoopid as one can be.
In order to win that crown, you'd have to do the same thing all over again. Now THAT would be ******* stupid. Karl is the most likely candidate to do such a thing. Teetering on the edge of an H1/SM2 car as we type... While a GSR that he has grown to loathe sits in his garage, idle for most of the last year.
See, that would be dumb.
This is where good friends perform interventions. They do things like say "Hey Karl, that $1500 CRX might make a fun entry for the $2005 GRM Challenge."
<Bing>
Train diverted off the track with a busted bridge onto the safer track that simply runs through the badlands.
Scott, who says that building an ITC car is pretty stupid, but not nearly as stupid as a mega engineered Type R that runs against... Nobody.
PS - RIdiculous
