The problem with the Type-R is it has high compression, meant for a N/A engine. To add boost, you have to keep boost levels low, to avoid detonation.
Since the LS motor comes with low compression, you are able to push more boost in the stock engine and are able to run more boost than a Type-R.

To turbo the Type R the right way, you will have to get lower compression pistons put in, because of the stock high compression, you will not be able to run much boost at all. The ls is a better beginning block to turbo, unless you have the money to put into the motor to make it work. If you dont have much money, and just want to get a small turbo to say you have a turbo, get an LS, if you have the money to put into the motor, to build it right for high boost, still get an LS
