Gsr sounds weird at 3rpm
Hey I'm new, registered along time ago but just barely starting posting on this forum. Sup guys and girls. OK well the problem is when i rev, it makes a weird noise at 3rpm but before or after that it sounds good again. If i hold it at 3 the sound is constant. Same problem when im driving, any ideas? The sound seems to be coming from under the car near the engine?
you need to give us more info, what exactly does the sound, sound like?
more than likely, its the damn head shield on the cat or maybe even header. those are nitorious for ratteling at around 3k+.. have a friend rev her up, and lay down by the car and listen to see if you can hear that headshield rattle.
if thats not it, then go check other parts. like someone said, check the valves. i heard/read that a way to check if your valves are ticking is, hold a screwdriver to the valve cover i think it was, and hold the screwdriver handle in your teeth, and if you feel any viberations such as a ticking viberation, then theres ur problem.
also check for exhaust leaks and stuff like that..
bottom line, narrow down the problem from easiest to hardest. you'll eventually find the problem
good luck

does it sound like a buzzing or vibrating? stock exhaust mans are notorious for rattling at that rpm cause of the way they are designed. look into it more or bring to a muffler shop and put on lift and see if they car hear with car up in the air.
could be ur cat... have a friend hold a steady rpm where it rattels or makes the "werid noise" and look under neeth to see where its coming from.. im pretty sure its ur cat.
Yea it seems a lot of people having rattling exhaust probs.. I had a terrible rattle, it turned out to be my high flow cat, a chunk of the catalyst broke off inside and made a loud rattling sound, just get under the car and do some looking... Most likely the cat or heatshield.
if its the same thing mine was doing, which it sounds like it bc mine did it at 3krpms.....then its the stock exhaust manifold.....when i put my comptech header on, the noise went away.

Don't hold it in your teeth, just put the base of the screwdriver to your ear, and the tip to various parts of the motor. The screwdriver to your ear will help to amplify the sound.
My guess is the famed heat shield rattle, try bending it around the cat and out of the way. It could also be the cat or the header vibrating.

i had the same problem a while back. first you hould probably check to see if the heat sheild is touching the exhaust. if not check the resinator. when i was having that problem both welds on each end of the resinator canister broke loose and it rattled like a son of a bitch at mid rpms
