how hard to install clutch?
I've never done it before, but I have a Helm's manual. Basically, how many hrs would it take me? I've done plenty of other install including cams and gears, but never a clutch before. I am trying to save the $300 of labor that I was quoted!!!
ALso, would it be easy to install a LSD at that time?

Judging from what others have said, it's a tough install. If you have someone who has done it before with you, then that is a definate plus.
Looking at it from my point of view, I would imagine it would be hard to align everything perfectly (or as good as the dealer).
Anyone else?

I was able to do it myself, but I am naturally mechanically inclined. I used c-speed's site for a reference. It took me about 10-12 hours total.

i did it myself and can tell you it's a pain in the ***. set aside about 1 week and a half for it just in case you run into complications and have to make runs for parts. i used c-speed's site for reference and had a helm's manual to guide me through the install.
its not too complicated....it just takes time, and lots of ball busting labor. I just finished my first one with my brother this past week. CSPEED site helps, i would recommend having the helms for more precise directions, and torque specs....except the helms says to do some things that you dont really have to do.

How would you rate the clutch install in terms of difficulty and time consumption compared to a turbo kit install? I'm thinking of tackling it with a friend or two and a Helms as a guide.
Dustin, did you do the install by yourself or with the help of friends? And how the hell would you do it without a lift available?

I'd say it's probably easier than a turbo install. I've never done a turbo, so i couldnt really say. If the clutch is harder than a turbo, then I want to get me a turbo. And a lift is not necessary. Just jack up the car really high. A lift would be nice though.
I have heard people say that dropping the transmission isn't that bad, but trying to get it back together after taking it off is a real bitch. Is this true?
Only takes me 2.5 hours to swap trannys in a 5g SOHC car AT the track.
Gotta have the right tranny lift for one......

Simple lift ain't it? Finally a use for wood left over from sub cutouts!

When you have to take out the half shafts, it's a lot easier and way faster to just drop the lower control arm and wiggle them out than trying to take off the steering knuckle off the ball joint.
If you contact Augie at Gunn Acura tell him I sent you and he might do it for cheaper. My name is Art and I used to deal with him in the past. People up here at the the Honda school talk about how good augie is. Anyhow, it never hurts to try it out yourself. Its not that difficult to do, just takes time.

Turbo install is way harder. You have to remove the entire engine, tap oil and water lines.
Yeah, that is what I figured...I need to find someone who needs help with a turbo install so I can learn it...
You're right, now that I think about it...you wouldn't have to remove the engine...that would make it a lot easier though...I really want to find a turbo to install.
Well it depends on how good you are with cars and where you are planning to do the install.
With a lift you would do it much faster. Just unbolt and remove all wiring harness from the transmission. There are mounts that need to be removed to drop the tranny down. Then there is the removing of clutch itself and working in reverse order to put it back in. I know from the previous generation Integras, the front mount is really hard to work with. I haven't done an install in the DC2s chassis yet.
But I would say, with help probably 2-3 hours.

I guess I should not have said "have to", but its makes it so much easier removing the engine. 90% of the installs I've seen they have done so.
How do you plan on cooling the turbo? no water or oil taps..
There is so much MISC stuff you have to do with a turbo install. fuel pump, regulator, injectors, intercooler plumbing, ect
While some of that stuff maybe easy, the install is overall more complex, and not as straightforward and installing a clutch.
Check out c-speedracing. Clutch install is 2 pages, while even a supercharger install is 5 pages.

the clutch is more labor-intensive, and in my opinion harder, but a turbo install takes longer, and if you cant weld, you will have to get help. me and a friend did my clutch in 6 hrs, with a lunch break in there. it was my first and i did most of the work. he was very experienced and walked me through all the steps and helped me with the hard parts. i wouldnt want to do it any time soon, but its not that bad, just about 100 pain in the a$$ bolts. id say get some friends together on a weekend and go for it, and spent the 300 bucks most places charge on some more parts.
