Default winter daily driver - opinions

I have a 98 Base, and am debating about winter driving. I can pay 400 bones, get snow tires on steeeeeeeles, and drive it to school every day. It takes 20 minutes around town , and 30 minutes on a narrow-*** parkway. Or I can buy a civic hatchie beater, slap some snows on that thing, and not worry about crashing, or other people crashing into me. (I live in a town with a lot of soccer moms who drive Porsche Cayenns with no regard for anybody else.) Also, I would not have to wory about my paint getting messed up from snow/salt.
Thanks for your opinion, and sorry for the long post.

Hey Hkysk8r07, do you drive a four-door Dark blue Focus. I might have seen you around sometimes. i drive a Eukaliptus Green Lude with a pretty loud Tanabe Ultra Medallion exhaust, and soon to be rolling on 17 Inch. Gold Gram Lights 57s Peace

well i dont do it with anyone else around. The last thing i want is to hit someone or someones car. But cutting reverse donuts in the snow in a deserted parking lot is going to be the new hotness this winter

Sorry, but here are no buses on highways around here. And there would be no drift rally action

Or a not so old 4x4......I just got my winter beater for hopefully 2 or 3 winters to come: 1989 Nissan Pathfinder 4x4 2 door, 118,000 miles, quiet motor, decent BF Goodrich tires, came with a new battery, new belts, ALL power options (Including a working A/C!) for $800 plus license, tax, and new front brakes (Pads AND rotors!), out the door for $925. Oddly enough, the interior is SPOTLESS! I wouldn't be afraid to take the wife in this beater......
