S2K retro in my Integra
I hardly ever visit H-T much anymore but thought you guys might wanna see some of my work. I used to retro for people all the time but don't have the time to do it anymore for people. My old set-up was ECE E55 Bi-Xenon, then I wanted more so I opted for the S2K, one of the highest quality projectors available out there.
For all the pics go here... http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=22

Pic right in the colorband cut-off. oemPhilips 4100k D2S bulb, no ricer 8000k here.

If anyone is wondering where hidforum went, it got hacked and will no longer be reinstated. THE ONLY place now for real HID talk is http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/. It is basically all the members off hidforum and alot of new guys too. We sell new and used HID equipment too, not just a forum now. Stop by and visit us if you need any help. Thanks guys! comments welcomed!

Here ya go! This is just the A6 retro write up though. I did the E55 at first, which DOES NOT use the spacers. You can follow every step except the use of spacers if you going to do a E55 retro.http://www.skafia.com/itr/hid/
The S2K is far more harder to pull off generally on a teg because there is nothing to mount the projector itself to and the limited clearance issues of the pot metal bracket.
Thanks for the compliments guys!

well almost, with the E-class projectors, you have to enlarge the hole left in the Integra headlight bracket to make the projector mount directly to it. This is probably the most time consuming part of the process, and is 100% trial and error.
Also, you don't have to cut off the corner of the bracket where the adjusting screw goes, as shown in his how-to, if you're using E-class projectors.

Has there actually been any laws passed saying it is illegal to put OEM HID projectors from one car into another car? If you do it right it should be no different than having them on the original cars they came on.
It would be illegal in Europe, since all cars equipped with HID over there are required to have headlight washers and automatic levellers. But this country has no such requirements (no USDM Hondas or Acuras with HID have auto levellers, I don't think).
I can understand HID kits being illegal, since most halogen projectors weren't designed to use them and the output is marginally better than stock at best, and usually worse in terms of glare, hotspots, etc.

As far as I know, its illegal to put HID lighting in a car that didn't come with it, and that includes cars where it was an option. Thats why even BMW won't install their factory HID headlihgts on a BMW that didn't come with them, even if that model had them available.

Have you, or anyone you know, ever gotten pulled over for having HIDs though? I've had my XenonDepot kit for over a year now and have driven past tons of CHP and local cops and they've never even looked twice.
oh and this is in the stock projectors where the cutoff is non-existant

Thanks for all the compliments again guys.
Patrick, lol, you and me see each other everywhere lol. but, to answer some of you guys' questions, yes it is illegal to put ANY HID into a car that was never meant to have it in the first place. Retroing in projectors is just as illegal as buying banned HID kits because your headlights will now be non DOT certified, no matter if you have DOT projectors retroed in like say a S2K for intance. The reason why retros are illegal is because the DOT engineering that went into the original existing oem headlights is now void due 1. to you (the owner) opening the headlights up 2. manipulating the engieered bracket in any way, shape, or form. Also, there is no way to 100% effectively create a DOT certified retro no matter how good it turns out lol. But don't let any of this discourage you guys! I have never been harrased of any of my retros. This is due to proper aiming and sticking with oem equipment like 4100k bulbs and not those ultra blue/purple high 8000k ricer bulbs. Those are not good for anything because they put out far less lumens than any oem 4100k HID bulb.
Thanks again guys for all the nice compliments!!
If you guys need any help just come ovr to hidplanet and all your questions can be answered as well as any HID stuff you need.

undagroundrican-if your having trouble trying to find out what size spacer you need, you can always hold the HID projector next to your oem halogen projector in the bracket and measure the amount of distance from the bracket to the lens. Make sure they are the same and you'll be just fine.
Here's what I do, I just held them next to them and measured the distance. Whatever amount in between the S2K and the bracket is the length of what the spacer needs to be.

Here is a test fit with my spacerss on the gutted s2K.

hope that helps you!

really sucks to hear that hidforum.com is not going to be up ever. i was trying to help a friend do a retrofit but since that site is gone, all the possible pics, diy people have posted are gone. i know that there is hidplanet.com but alot of the pics and diy write ups are still not available since its still pretty new.
but a question for you, i did a retrofit on my teg about a few months ago. setup was valeo ece projectors. im not really happy with the output and cutoff. not enough even though people were so into them in hidforum.com. now do you think it would be better to try to trade someone my valeos for s2k? because i saw an actuall s2k on the freeway and pulled up next to me and the difference was outstanding. mine just look like regular halogen. so how much more would i pay to trade someone on hidplantet.com for s2k??? thanks or patrickgsr please answer too thanks

He was asking about the diameter of the bolts, and looking at his pics they do indeed look like 1/4" to me. I'm sure you could use #10 bolts and washers, plus whatever drill bit size that is, 3/16" I think. I know he didn't make a mistake because he said 1/4" on everything: the bolts, nuts, washers, drill bit size, tubing (spacer) size, etc.
I can't tell from the pics, but did you have any problems w/the length of the rear of the projector? Where the capsule goes. Was it long enough to stick out the rear housing of the Teg headlight?
The rear actually ends up fitting more oem than my old E55 retro. I'll post a pic tonight for you on the rear view of the housing. alot of people have asked me that question but I never took the time to take the pic.
Juicy-I saw your thread on hidplanet. Your probably not going to find anyone that will straight up trade you for your projectors. The S2K's generally go for more than what Valeos go for, not matter if its H7 or D2S. If your asking would it be worth it to retro the S2K over the Valeo, then my answer is yes! There is no comparison between those two. The valeos are really nice projectors and all, but they stand no chance in competeing with the S2K as you have noticed lol.
