Default how important is the gasket between the headers and the catalytic converter?

custom exhaust 2.5" piping done throughout with a 2.5" catalytic converter. however, you can hear a leak around the headers/catalytic area that might be due to either a welding leak or because of alignment. my question is that do i really need the gasket in between the cat and the header outlet? can i just connect the two without it?

Either get the leak fixed or crack the window so you don't die of exhaust fume poisoning.

It won't hurt the car.. just will sound annoying.

Obviously you'll need a donut gasket to stop the leak. But are you asking how important it is? I'd say not that important. I doubt you'd feel any noticeable power loss from a leak like you're describing.

I think it's impossible without the donut gasket.

Yes, you really do need that gasket, unless you want exhaust leaks, that is.

If it was a crack in the weld, you would be able to see where the leak was.
