I just purchase a 88 DX 4 door running in EP...Please help..
I will be using this car for autocross only. (maybe a few track days)
I would like to do a motor swap, but what engine and what class would it put me in?
The car has no interior, but is stock. A d15 motor.
What mods really make a differents, and are not just for show.
Thanks
Glenn

Work on the suspension, refresh the bushings, get good shocks, and stiff springs.
Get some 20x9.5x13 slicks for the front, and 20x8 for the rear.
Getting the car to handle the way you want will take a few tries on the set up.
Then learn how to drive it, and then worry about the motor swap.
You can put any of the non vtec D series motors in there.
A motor swap from another chassis will put you in a Mod class without the interior.
Welcome to EP, it's fun.

Thanks,
I have be autocrossing for about 3 years.
This is a winter project for me.
What spring rate and set up do you recommend? Konis with coil overs?
I looked at your car no dash or radiater? what do you wieght in at?
What Mod class does the car go to SM, FM? SM has a better pax than EP?
Thanks
Glenn

The 88-91 CIvics are all on the same line in the SCCA rule book for EP so you can use any of those engines. Your min weight will be a little more with the D16A6 Si engine but probably worth it for the extra torque.
I have a 91 Civic 4 door as my beater that I'm getting ready to do some product testing on. It's already been on the dyno. However, I have a D16Y7 swap in it but still using the dual point fuel injection from the 91 car. A header, cat and 2-1/4" cat are the first things to be going on (hopefully next week). I'll probably run some PM7 pistons and go with the A6 IM since we have a few of those laying around. BTW, the engine with the DPI did 79hp/80 lb-ft, WOW! But it does get 36 mpg and that's why it's a beater.
If you need some extra D16 parts, hit me up.

OK so if I read the rule book right I can only swap a motor from Appendix A. But does this mean any motor from the hondas listed or only from CIVIC (88-91)?
Does "same line" mean line on honda's or line of type?
Can I do a B16A1 swap?
I would go to SM (Better Pax) but the full interior is gone including the heat! I still have the dash unlike you... I'm be remove that so and just making a small gauge custer.
Thanks

You can't use a B-series motor and still stay in EP. Also, you cannot go to SM because of the lack of interior (heater core, etc.) if you use a B-series...in that case, you would make the jump to (I believe) DM.

For EP you can only use engines from the 88-91 Civic, so I think I'd go with the D16A6 and stock FI. You need to read the rules about what mods are allowed with the stock FI because some mods will get you a 10% weight penalty.

They have to be USDM spec motors available in US cars. The ZC and B16 was never offered in a US 88-91 Civic.

OK I'm going to run EP next year.
Do a D16A6 swap
Koni Coilovers
13" Wheel put the rule book states 15x7 So doesn't that mean the I can only run 13 X 7?
Thanks
