Future track whore to be...
84' rx7 Gsl-SE. Toyota celica supra wheels with yoko a08-r's, camber caster plates, and soon to have a 13b built by AIM tuning for and ITS 2nd gen that ended up never being finished . as for susp i only have tokico ilummina for fronts uninstalled. gonna go with blues on the rear. havent decided on springs or sways yet. i have yet to research proven setups. Car will be for auto-x/road race purposes, but more so for auto-x b/c events are closer to me.

i have yet to buy CP racing fender flares and to finish my aero headlights ( friend bought CP racing set and i copied them.)

It's very clean car. ill have new pic in the sun. that was inside a dark shop and it was dirty. i got the car for $250 to. lol. thats why im turning it into my track *****. also because the engine has no compression. but everything works in it like the heat, wipers, clock, everything. but soon all that will be gone.
Umm this may be a stupid question but why do people who HPDE always refer to their cars as track ******? I've never heard anyone else use that term, especially outside of H-T.
I've heard the term trailer queen as well, but never heard a car called that by its owner. Track ***** sounds like such a derogatory term to give to the car you do high performance driving with.
Using the second gen motor will put you in a minimum of SM2. It might also be legal in prepared, I'm not sure on that. The second gen motor uses lighter rotors with higher compression and some changes in porting.
Is that rust on the top of the driver's fender or just the lighting? Except for that and some wrinkling on the same fender, it looks really nice. Check the pickup points for the rear suspension, that is a weak/rust prone structural area.
If it's a manual steering version, start working on your upper body/arm strength. The steering with wide tires gets really heavy on those. There are some suspension parts that can eliminate the roll oversteer inherent in the rear suspension. They are really fun cars to play with.

its legal in prepared because the car came with a 13b. my other friend with a 1st gen gsl runs a 13b and he runs in csp. theres no rust on the car and thats not wrinkling in the fender. its the lighting. ill get better pics. it came with power steering as well so YAAY. no more thoughts of a VW rack swap.
I know it came with the 13b, unfortunately there are internal differences in the motors and you cannot swap between different chassis in SP. I don't know how much difference in power it makes, but there will be some. Assuming the motor is the 88 1/2+ version, the rotors are about 2 1/2 lbs lighter than what came in your car, the ports are bigger and the compression is higher.
Unless you are making a serious national level car, it really does not matter too much, I just thought I would mention it if you did not alread know.
If you are going to run it on track too, get an oil temp gauge. Make sure the oil and coolant cooling systems are at 100%, rotories seldom survive an overheating. Most IT RX-7's I've seen run really big rads and oil coolers, much bigger than the factory ones.

i know this. i was the one of two honda guys out of about 20 people around town all of which own rotaries from repu's to rx-3's... there not new to me. as for engine ill be running a s4 block with s5 intake mani, tubular turbo mani and s5 turbo tuned @ about 8psi. im in the process of installing 2 electric fans right now. push pull. also moving the radiator forward and angled about 15 degrees forward. as for oil cooler, the gsl-se come with a pretty gnarly oil cooler compared to all other first gens.

it's an affectionate term, like when you call your gf "your hot bitch" (when she's present) and she calls you her man slave.
i suppose it comes from all of the sex-caliber driving related thrills to be had on track, with minimal day to day driving commitment, since it is your track ***** and not your daily driving battle ax.

Ha ha ha, awesome post (monkey's)
By the way, to the OP, Tokico blues? I thought they were sort of bottom-of-the-line stock replacement junk? Given the whole Spec-RX7 community, there has to be something better available.

Tokico Blues will work fine for the rear.
As for suspension, how much work do you want to do?
The easiest, proven setup is the Spec RX-7 parts (Racing Beat springs, Tokico shocks, Racing Beat front sway, stock or no rear swaybar).
If you want to do some fab work and get crazy, G-Force Engineering is the place to go. At a minimum, get their setup book. They also sell steering geometry correctors, tri-link setups, and other fun stuff.
The car has decent brake hardware for IT opwer levels, not sure how they'll handle turbo speeds. Hawk blues on front and a decent street pad in rear.

When you pull off that big, clunky stock steering wheel and the steering wheel puller can't pull hard enough, don't hit the back side of the wheel or the steering shaft even lightly with a hammer as there is a collapsable link down in the column that will break and let the wheel shuttle in and out. Guess how I know, and I never even got the stock wheel off it.

lee: yea. we had all that and more issues with another gsl-se
my friend is running that same exact suspension setup on his 81gsl. i plan on buying g-force it turn-in spacers and their GT panhard and their red dot's...

Because they think it is cool.
The true meaning of the term doesn't even refer to the car - it is the owner of the car. The implication being that he/she will do whatever he/she has to in order to drive on track.

i believe that description would fit better with term "track junkie". like kinda how a cocaine freak will, and i quote Bob Sagat from the feature film "Half-Baked":
"I sucked dick for coke, now that's an addiction"
This implicates that he is a junkie or addict if one wants to be politically correct.
Now this this is my "track *****" because i work the **** out of the bitch on the track...

i was with all those guys. we had a rotary meet in fort wayne and some of us went down to grissom. we ran x-class so we could all run at the same time. i didnt have the car their but i was rinding in the old beat FC with the Cusco susp. setup. i think his best was like a 44.0 or the high 43's. did your crx have a cage? there were 2 black crx's there and a white one. did you have the duct tape (you know what i mean)
Yeah, mine's the one with the rollbar (not cage) and the black tape covering some of the holes
What color 7? I lined up against a gold one and actually edged him out in the drag strip section somehow...with my whopping 94 whp.
Apparently I picked up a cone on my best run (even though I didn't think so and neither did my co-driver who was watching, but oh well)...it was a low 43. For some reason I kept screwing up the slalom on the "fast" side though, so my best over there was a 44.something.

that track was definetly confusing. the gold one is my good friends. its got racing beat springs and sway's, tokico illuminas, g-force caster camber plates, kuhmo victoracers on 13inch diamonds, a big 4-port 13b. you beat him because his weber is a piece of **** and that car has such a fucked up tune. he cant find anyone who can tune webers. but he really doesnt ask around. i garauntee you can find some old fogey that could tune it at any auto-x event. his best was a 44.0. ill definetly be looking for you at auburn on the 23 or 24th, i forget, if you want to come up that far.
wow... what an amazing car...
You're going to have an absolute blast driving that thing!! Perfect project car too...
You could probably make pretty good money parting out the interior if you really wanted to, looks mint from the pics and people like their GSL-SE's
