1 layer head gasket?
on c-peeds site in the CR tool its shows a 1 layer. is that with the oem gasket? ive never heard ppl using 1 layer with it. just 2. not sure that would be a wise thing to do.
???
???
do you guys resurface the head or copper spray the 1 layer head gasket before install and how long does it last or seal and how much do you torque the 1 layer ???
Bump. having a hard time finding info on this.
Im wanting to use the top layer of an oem threee layer gasket, on an h22.
I might just take out the center and use it as a 2 layer. anyone have any info on this?
i cannot even find a place to buy a 1 layer HG for h22s.

so far ive found out that with the use of copper spray and using the top layer, and tq to 80lbs, with arp. should be good for a few years.
just talked to a guy that has had his gsr 1 layer for over three yreas now, no problems.
im gonna try it, so i hope it all goes well

The ppl i have been asking didnt resurface the head. They just cleaned it, SOS or somthing. @ 75-80 lb of tq, they've been lasting.
Some of them even reused there own head gasket, just removing bottom two layers. but all of them said that they would only use ARP studs. And always used copper spray, about 3 coats of spray.

from what i understand ur suppossed the use the middle layer...
all copper spray does is provide a crushable coating for the gasket allowing it to seal better...

NO, you cannot remove more than one layer from your oem honda head gasket. each of the outside area of the two outter layers have a black coating (sealant) on them, so to have bare metal to bare metal on a head gasket would be insane. the only layer you can take out is the middle layer because the other two have sealing coating on them.
i did this on my h22 about a year ago i took the middle layer of the head gaskit an used copper spray i have been wanting to try a 1 layer but i dont feel like pulling my head off i say go for it
um its alot cheaper, and more reliable to just have your head milled down a tad.... ive seen one layers last for a while, and i've seen them leak on start up... so spend the $40 to mill your head rather than wasting precious natural resources and your $ to keep buying head gaskets!
or you could do it the proper way. save your money, wait to have the motor rebuilt with higher compression pistons, and not have to worry about a thing.
its the cheap shortcuts that ruin hondas.
