Default what is a good autocross suspension?

i ran a serch and didnt come up with much of anything worth reading twice. and im in the market for some new suspension. right now im running stock everything (as far as to my knowledge anyways) and the stock springs are cut down an inch or so from the previous owner. needless to say its a horrible ride, and on 90 degree or more turns going the right speed, i HAVE scraped my body on the ground. the body roll is so unbeleiveble. anyways back to why i made this post. i want a good autocross setup, as i feel thats better for everyday driving (as this is my only car and daily driver) and i like going to the track to autocross more so then going in a straight line. wheres the fun in just that? i would like to get another inch or so more drop on what i have now, and im gonna be getting some 15 inch rims within the week, or if that deal falls through, ill get some slipstreams by years end. ill post up a pic of my ride if you guys need one to see how much of a drop im looking for (not sure from stock though).

so, post up guys and sorry for the long story, i had to explain myself. and btw ill spend like 600 without install. i may just install it with a fellow civic owner. cheers guys

waaaaaaaaaaaaay too low... try eibach ers springs something conservative like 200 front and 300 rear on ground control coilovers for koni shocks. And pick up a set of the koni yellow sp3 models with 5 perch adjustments instead of 3.

You can go with the ever popular comptech sway or you can go with the a-speed rear brace made by our own Charlston Ong (CivicFerio)

whats the 200 and 300 mean? im guessing its the stiffness of the coilovers?

1. Telling us what kind/model/year of car you drive would be a good place to start

From what you have said - I don't think an "autocross" suspension is what you are looking for. No "autocross" suspension is going to function properly with 2" of ground clearance. Most Honda/Acura suspensions (double wishbone) are meant to work properly at a certain ground clearance (4-5") - if you lower it more than that you won't get good performance unless you are running EXTREMELY stiff springs like you would find in a race car.

You probably should look at some sort of air suspension.

well its a 1992, civic DX sedan. its a standard transmission and has like 160K on the suspension. here is a pic:

i was hoping to get it a little lower then that, but i dont want it to be low and ride like *** because it has to be so stiff. but ya there is a pic... there is 14 inchers on there with hella meaty tires... imma get some 15's with less wheel wall on it, and it should look nicer... but i was thinking about doing suspension before i got rims/tires.

Punted from RR forum......

You do not want a good autox suspension on your daily driver. You will get tired of it within 2 months, and it doesnt seem that you want to spend that kind of money anyways (which is fine, no reason to on a commuter car).

Seriously.. A great daily driven suspension is Eibach prokits and KYB agx's.. you can go to tons of vendors that support this board that sell this as a set or seprately for a very reasonable price..

i had eibach ground control coilovers mated to kyb agx's on my ek coupe and it was straight. handled really nicely and was a comfortable commute. eibach sportline springs and kyb agx shocks or hp tokicos should be great for your 4dr, and they setup is in your price range. WHATEVER you do dont go with some cheap no name springs or coilovers, youll regret it, and waste money.

first post

anywho, this is the kinda advice i was looking for. someone who could name some ****, and i dont want to go cheap. i want to spend some cash because for like 3 years ive had to deal with such shitty *** body roll, i owe it to myself to get something half decent.

btw, nice @ title change.

I would say Eibach pro kit , koni yellows and some Suspention Techniques sway bars would be a mild set up for street and be good enough to autoX

I would add some swaybars. Get a Progress adjustable rear bar and swap the front LCAs so you can mount a 94+ Integra GSR or a 99 Civic Si swaybar. For springs/struts I recommend Omnipower or Hayame coilovers. They can be had for around $500 and they outperform and have superior ride quality to more traditional setups like Skunk2 + Tokicos. Drop the car 1.5 - 1.75 inches. At 1.5 inches and lower, camber correction becomes necessary. If you can't afford SPC front upper arms, get something like the Progress alignment kit. Run about -1 degree camber all around. Then choose a good set of affordable performance street tires like Kumho and you're set.

Do everything yourself, except mounting the tires and maybe the alignment. If you're serious about autoX, you'll learn how to do your own alignments.

i like my zeal b2's... but if you just want daily drivers.. i wouldn't recomend them.. although there AWESOME for daily driving and track driving. there a lil expensive for daily driving..

i wouldn't recomend H&Rs... their spring rates are messed... i like eibach for daily.

Probably because whatever you used was too low/too stiff for the shocks (stock?) that you had them on.

$500? Where?

RJ - turns on his BS meter and waits for it to peg with more crap
