Default no more reverse on 99 si?!!

The other day i went out to my car and it would not go into reverse. It basically gets stuck as soon as you try pushing it in, than you need to kind of force it out back to neutural. But any idea's what this could be? i heard reverse dosent have a synchro, but any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

i'm not really sure what the problem is, but whenever that happens to me, i put it into 1st gear, and it usually goes into reverse without a problem. sorry if this doesnt help.

try some full synthetic syncromesh trans fluid, available at any GM dealer (chevy, GMC, saturn...) if that doesnt help you have a more serious problem inside the gearbox

I just stopped by a local transmission shop and the guy that looked at my car dosent think it has anything to do with the gear box. He thinks its most likely something with the "internal shift linkages". But he said i could bring him the tranny and for 80 bucks(hour of labor) the will figure out the problem and let me know what i should do. so i guess thats the option.

uh oh. this is exactly what happend to me and several transmission shops looked at my transmission and said it needed a rebuild. not saying this is what you need, but consider it.

reverse was getting very sticky on my car and then i started to realize a grind about 75 into 5th. everything goes back to normal and then a week goes by, nothing, then all of a sudden i have no reverse and i get a grind at any rpm going into 5th gear. so im like wtf, i change the tranny fluid and the problem goes away for 2 or 3 days. IT COMES BACK and now i am frustrated so i take off my transmission and take it into several shop. it was caused by a bad bearing and was letting all the gears shake or something like that. anyway i know it screwed me out of $575 cuz i had to order a new tranny from Hmotorsonline.
