I'm upgrading the suspension on my 92 integra and the rear lower strut bushings need replaced on both sides. How does one go about getting the old ones out and pressing in the new ones?

 

my best sugestion is to take the arms out and take them to a shop that has a bushing press
i did them all myself and it sucked, alot of torching, hacksawing, banging, took me 3 days to do all the suspension busings, good luck

 

Assuming I don't take the arms off, how do you do it? I've only got 2 (maybe even 1) bushing to change, so it might still be easier to just do it myself.

 

there is almost NO way to do this one the car.
the oem bushings have a metal outer sleeve that is a "push fit" into the LCA.
there must be the utmost care taken to align the two parts for proper pressing in without ruining the new bushing.

now, polyurethane bushings have no outer sleeve for LCA's so they can be pressed in with a long bolt and nut wqith some washers to displace the force... or even a vice or c-clamp can work with some applications.

good luck. my vote is on a machine shop.

 

yes you definatly have to take the arms off, if you just want to put stock bushings in and not poly ones then i would sugest just buying new lca's with the busings already in them, i believethey go for about $100 bucks each, it costs about $110 for the dealer ship to press new ones in to your old lca, if you can find some one else that will do it cheeper than go for it

 

Can I buy new poly ones (just the two I need)? If so, where at?

 

My "proper care" for putting in the new bushings was good aim and a big metal hammer.

 

What did you do to get the old bushing out? I've got all of the rumber, but the metal sleeve will not budge.

Has NAPA called back yet? How much was it?

 

Hacksaw the outer shell in 2-3 places and then tap out with a chisel. Clean up any marks left from the sawing. Lube bushing and push it in.

BTW Syl_Glyde is great stuff to lube bushings with.

 

This has got to be the biggest pain in the *** upgrade ever on my car like all honda's like what was said there is a metal outer for the bushing in the control arms I used a propane torch a fryed the rubber part out slightly then proceded to use a hacksaw to saw through the metal part then I used a chisel to knock out what was left needless to say I wish this ? was'nt posted because remembering it brings back NIGHTMARES and what really sucks since I plan on doing this on my new car I am going to have to do it again. Lots of luck to Ya! BTW if you are going to do this do it now while the weather is colder dont wait till summer like I did

 

Sounds like a real PITA to do the rear LCAs, is it really worth it for a street car that sees maybe a dozen track days a 10 auto-xs a year?

 

yeh..what are the advantages? i wanna know. but i dont want to mess up the ride comfort either.

 

does anyone know how much it would cost to have a shop put in full suspension bushings? thanks
