Default AEM V2 Help for GS-R

I'm getting a V2 CAI for my GS-R and I need some help. I use my car as a daily driver and so once I put my V2 in, will I need a bypass valve? I'm pretty sure I need one but I need some assurance.

Also, does anyone know what size (in inches) do I need to get for my V2?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

the v2 is a great intake, it would be better to get a bypass valve since winter is coming, although i wouldnt even run a CAI during a rainy season anyway. the v2 has a 2.5in diameter i believe if that was your question.

if you are getting one for free or for a good *** price i'd say go for it, but if you plan on paying retail i'd just get an ebay CAI or anything identical/cheaper than the AEM. good luck

You don't [/i]need[/b] a bypass valve but hey better safe than sorry. Alot of people run their CAIs in the rain w/o the bypass valve (including me) and have never sucked in water, but I can't say I never worried about it. And then theres those who have the bad luck to actually hydro lock. I just recently ordered a SRI because of the fear of water and with the winter season coming up snow.
Also the prices I see on the V2 are ridiculous.

i had an aem cai with no bypass valve for over 2.5 years and never had any problems with hydrolocking. if you're careful, then it won't be a big deal, but some like that piece of mind. its actually a cheap $35 insurance you won't ruin your engine...

AEM states that your not supposed to use a bypass valve on their V2 CAI.

I wouldn't be wasting my money on that intake. You could get similar gains with a no name intake.

I have a cai like many others, but I have never had a problem with water getting sucked in, being that I live in FL I just remove the cold air pipe during the hurricane season, and POOF! now i got a short ram intake, its as simple as that. BTW I have an Ingen cai, well it was free, coulnd't pass up a good deal!

Hmm... I'm getting my V2 for $165. A short ram would cost about $100 so for $65 more I don't mind getting a better intake. Thanks for all the help guys.

I have a V2 Intake, I believe that there is no by pass valve for the V2 since there is two different size pipings. By the way, the V2 is really, really loud... but if your into that..then all for it!!

No need to spend $100 on a SRI. Just get a cheap ebay one for $25. As long as the SRI has the proper design and diameter, it will perform just as well as name brand one. Most of these generic ones are just AEM knockoffs anyways. Remember, it's just a metal pipe.

Well the only big difference is the fact that AEM has a CARB number. In CA cops are getting out of hand, asking drivers to pop their hoods when the car looks modified or is an import. I have an ebay intake and I got pulled over about a month and a half and sure enough he noticed it didn't have a CARB number. Thankfully he didn't write me up, which would've meant I'd have to go to the state referee and get my car approval, which he said would be costly. If you live in CA or any other state that cares about the number, you should go name brand.
