Default Does any one have a tanabe ultra medallion

I searched, but I seem to be the only one with a Tanabe titanium exhaust on a Lude. If any one has one, holla back.

I also have one
It is much louder than my previous Greddy EVO & RS*R exhaust.

Do either of you have pics with the exhaust installed? I ordered one over a month ago, but the shop I ordered from went out of business and took my money with them. http://www.nolimitsperformance.com =

Today was my first commute to school with the tanabe . It is about a 45 min. drive on the highway. I did not have the silencer on comming to school. It was loud and got a little raspy at 3k. This might be because I am using an OBD1 Cat from my friends 92 Accord because of some problems with my old cat. It is in limp mode, and vtec won't engage. I ordered a Random Tech. hi-flow cat last week and will be putting it on soon. On the way back from school, I decided to use the silencer. I bolted it on with my hans and noticed that there was some latteral movement in the canister. I was like "F*** S***". It is apparently vibrating when I give it some throttle and making this quiet but horrible vibrating sound.
When I get the new cat on I will let you guys know if it sounds different.
Also, I still have not taken Images of my car because I don't have a camera yet.

Hey vsbb6, what mods do you have on the car, and how does it make your exhaust sound. Does it resonate alot, is there raspiness . Also, why did you go from an RS*R to a tanabe? Thanks.

FINALLY!

Other people that have the Tanabe Ultra Medallion!!! I got it on my 2001 Base. All I have are AEM V2 intake, DC stainless header, and the Ultra Medallion.

I used to have the Greddy Evo cat-back and I thought that was too quiet. So I bought the Tanabe for around $700.

Without the silencer, it is loud. I've never tried it with the silencer, though.

I have to say, I'm a bit disappointed. Once I hit 3000 rpm and all the way up to VTEC, it sounds raspy. What do you guys think of the Ultra Medallion?

Hey InspireSIR, Welcome to the ultra medallion owners club. LOL
My tanabe does sound a little raspy but it might be because I am using a friend's OBD1 cat and my lude is pulling codes and running rich. I tried out the silencer, but it moves left and right when attachen. Guess tanabe made a race exhaust and did not put much effoort into piecing the silencer together. BTW, how did your Greddy Evo sound. Was it raspy at all?, how was the ground clearance, how was the resonance if any, and waht was the quality like. Also, was it quiet like the RS*R

Yah, I've never used the silencer because I think it robs you of power. I'm a bit disenchanted with this exhaust. The Greddy didn't resonate at all at 3k rpm because it has 2 silencers before the muffler. I don't know what the RSR is like, though. I doubt your raspy sound will go away because I have the stock catalytic and it still sounds like that. I'm hesitant to get rid of the Tanabe because I paid $700 something for it. :-(

I know the feeling, I got it and was like oh **** this thing looks nice (titanium). I don't want to get rid of it either, so I will either have to get used to it or try modifying the silencer to get better fitment. Right now I can't vouch about power gains because It is only 1 O2 sensor, and is in limp mode. Vtec does'nt engage, and I only have about 100 HP.

Have you gotten a chance to hear other brands of exhasts on the Prelude? I'm trying to find out which one has the deepest sounding tone. Right now I'd say it's the Greddy EVO but I haven't heard the Apex N1 or Thermal R&D system yet...I'm going to call my local shop tomorrow and put in an order. So if you know anyone that wants an Ultra Medallion that's only 8 months old, let me know lol...

I went from RS*R, then Greddy EVO, and now Tanabe Ultra Medalion. It is definitely the deepest sounding exhaust that I ever had.

Nothing raspy at all, just deep and loud.

I am also running Iceman, HKS filter, JG TB, Skunk 2 IM, Type S cams, Jun cam gears, UR pulleys, Mugen header, test pipe and VAFC.

Whoa dude, how do you get no rasp and I do. .I hope my future mods will tame the ricey rasp down a bit. BTW, how is the Iceman? can you convert it to a ram air. I really want to get one, and it will probly be my next intake.

Hey InspireSIR, I can tell you of the deepest exhaust ive heard for a lude, Thermal reaserch and development is soooo deep. As for the Tanabe it's a great exhaust, no doubt but there is rasp, mean greens car is somewhat raspy. But this may be due to the fact that hes using my CB7 cat. When we install his new cat we will see how it sounds, Do you think this "rasp" could come from the catback vibrating the heat sheild? I know my RS*R sounds raspy at a certain rpm due to the fact that it vibrates the heatsheild.

I dunno, I just found out the RSR muffler is a chambered design instead of being straight through. That's good if you have minor bolt-ons, but I'm not going that route.

As for the Thermal, I've seen pictures of it on a Prelude, and I don't think it looks that good.

Looks like it's between the Apex'i N1, HKS Super Drager, and Greddy Evo2.

Anyone heard these on a Prelude?

IM running an Apexi N1 and with the bung in its really raspy and with the bung out its so deep it can give you a head ache so if you going on a long drive put it in or take ear plugs..

I ordered a Greddy EVO 2 for my 01 5 spd. I've got a friend with an original EVO on it and damn... thing is sweet. Now, if you want just plain volume, don't bother. But this thing is not quiet either. Average power gains though. Nice deep tone at idle and DOES NOT get raspy throughout the RPM range. Can't wait for mine to come in this friday.

Alright, here goes.
I finally got my Tanabe running the correct set-up. I installed a random Technology Hi-flow cat (with my primary O2 sensor this time). It sounds incredible. The exhaust did not get louder, but instead got a more high quality sound. The rasp is gone, and is instead replaced by a mean sounding hiss when at WOT. In Vtec, the exhaust get really quiet, and when you let of the gas in vtec, it burps and gurgles. Also, when shifting in VTEC, it burps which means with more tuning, I will be able to shoot a flame. . It gives me very noticable mid and high end gains that are very noticable. Enjoy.

Did you have a test pipe or stock cat before?

Hey all,

I'm getting my Greddy Evo2 installed this Saturday. So I'm selling the Ultra Medallion. I'm so pissed off cuz I paid $750 for it. I think it lists for $830 at other places. You guys seem happy with it but I totally hate the sound this thing makes. I should've known it would sound like this when the muffler is the size of a 2 liter Coke bottle.

Anyways, I'm willing to let the Ultra Medallion go for $350 (buyer pays shipping). If you're local to Los Angeles, I'll drop it off to you. If you know anyone, please point them to this thread.

I was using Midnightaccord's obd1 cat. This is because mine broke the day before the exhaust was getting put on. Also, the bolts attaching it to the pipes were rusted dead shut. We cut them off with a circular saw (can you say SPARKS). I needed to drive home that night because of work, so Midnightaccord dug up his old cat that he wasn't using in his garrage. We put that on so we had a closed exhaust system, and I was shooting flames from my header on the highway home. It was running rich like a Moth** ****** and pulling a **** load of codes. But now I have an OBD2 Random Technology cat, and it is sweet.
